A new incident report by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office revealed that Jeremy Renner was trying to prevent his nephew from being hit when he was run over by his snow plow on New Year's day.

The report obtained by CNN, states the Avengers star was using the 14,330 pound Pistenbully snow plow to get his adult nephew's truck out of the snow on his Reno, Nevada property. The snow plow, however, began sliding sideways down a hill, so Renner exited quickly.

Because of Renner's need to swiftly exit the vehicle, he did so without engaging the emergency brake.

Since the snow plow runs on a track, it continued to also move forward.

When Renner noticed the plow progressing toward his nephew, he tried to stop it but was pulled under while stepping onto the moving track to get into the cab.

The report stated:

"The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding, causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake."
"Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward."
"When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to [his nephew], he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over."

The report also revealed that "mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident" as the brake indicator light in the plow's cab was not functioning.
