President Donald Trump's average approval rating has never risen above 50%, yet public support for his impeachment and removal from office has always remained low.
It looks like that's beginning to change.
After revelations that Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Trump's political rival and former Vice President Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced an official impeachment inquiry into the President. Soon after, an explosive whistleblower complaint documented steps taken by the White House to conceal the details of the call. The White House confirmed both the call's contents and the efforts to cover it up.
Trump's interactions with the Ukrainian President are proving to be the most urgent threat to Trump's presidency since his inauguration in 2017.
After last week's whirlwind developments, public support for Trump's impeachment and removal soared by a net 20 points, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.
The poll shows Americans evenly divided regarding removal the week after the same poll showed 37% for impeachment and 57% opposed.
Quinnipiac is far from the only poll indicating a changing tide in Americans' attitudes toward impeachment.
Additionally, a new YouGov poll shows 55% of Americans supporting an impeachment inquiry, while 42% support full impeachment.
Impeachment went from a nuclear option for Democrats to a practical inevitability.

In the past hour alone, news broke that the President urged the Australian Prime Minister to open an investigation into the origins of the Mueller report in an attempt to discredit it, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took part in the damning phone call with the Ukrainian President, and Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, has been subpoenaed by the three congressional committees overseeing the impeachment inquiry.
Trump's impeachment peril is far from over.
