Katie Zacharia Just Gave A Bonkers Excuse For Why She Calls Herself A Lawyer Despite Failing Bar Exam—And Yikes

New White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia explained to alt-right activist Jack Posobiec why she failed the California Bar Exam but continued to call herself a "lawyer"—and it's a big yikes.

MAGA Republican President Donald Trump's new White House Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia, sat down with MAGA propagandist and noted Pizzagate conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec to defend calling herself both a "lawyer" and an "attorney" despite never passing a bar exam in any state or foreign country.

In her explanation, Zacharia falsely claimed she'd never called herself an attorney.

Posobiec said to Zacharia:

"'Wall Street Journal' did a huge piece about this question about, of course, everyone wants to know your legal background, your legal resume."
"I read the piece, talked about how you had graduated from Pepperdine, sat for the bar, didn’t go your way, but then, instead of sitting again, you went and moved to China."
"Walk us through that whole story."

Zacharia explained she had been in a long distance relationship with the son of one of her Pepperdine professors. After marriage, she knew she would join her husband where he was working in Beijing, China.

In a rambling diatribe, she told Posobiec:

"And I was obviously incredibly, I know, distracted and overwhelmed and excited for finally being married to someone who had been long distance from for at least a year, a year-and-a-half, when you include the engagement. And we just said, let’s take this time and I’ll take the bar and see what happens."

After excusing her poor performance on the only bar exam she ever sat for in any state or country, Zacharia added:

"The results are somewhat inconsequential, because I knew I wouldn’t need the bar in China, and we left shortly thereafter. And after moving to China, I think, I didn’t really think much of the bar results or consider that something that I needed to focus on, and I was offered a job at an International practice division of a Chinese law firm…"
"And the International practice were associates under a senior partner, and we worked the International side, the English language side, and we had a Chinese counterpart that was there."
"There’s no Chinese bar. I had enough credentials, which was my law degree, to be able to do this practice."

You can see a clip of Zacharia's comments here:

After telling Posobiec she never again sat for the bar after moving back to the United States because she "had four kids in six years,” Zacharia then claimed it was all a matter of semantics.

She claimed:

"A lot of the misinformation, miscommunication, Jack, is around the fact that I labeled myself 'lawyer.' And I consulted for a very long time many people in the field, 'Is it okay and acceptable if I label myself lawyer, not attorney-at-law, not Katie Zacharia, esquire, but lawyer, and provide legal analysis, not legal advice?'"
"And they said, 'Absolutely, absolutely across the board you can call yourself a lawyer, you have a J.D. and to buffer that, you have International legal experience and transactional law, which gives you the ability to analyze it, not necessarily give advice.'"

Interesting that Trump's new spokesmodel is saying "many people said..." to justify something.

You can see her full comments on calling herself a lawyer here:

Zacharia continued:

"And so, that’s where a lot of this discussion has come from. And you know, it’s unfortunate that people dub this as some kind of conspiracy or want to put me into a camp. The truth is, I was very careful how I executed this."

Apparently not carefully enough, as multiple sources shared examples of Zacharia repeatedly calling herself a lawyer or attorney.

@unexpected.nap

Here are 22 times Katie Zacharia blatantly lied about being a lawyer. She’s perfect for the Trump administration. She’s pathological. #katiezacharia #lawyer #lying #presssecretary

Others pointed out that there's no difference between "lawyer" and "attorney" as Zacharia claimed.

People also called out Pepperdine for posting a congratulatory message to Zacharia on X.

Zacharia's resume includes job titles that by definition require passing the bar exam.

After laying the groundwork on MAGA propaganda machine Real America's Voice, Zacharia went on to Fox News, where she didn't fare nearly as well.

Sean Hannity managed several "gotcha" moments.

Zacharia's explanation tour is not going well.

People wonder how long Zacharia will keep her new job. But with her ability to spin "alternative facts," she might be the perfect fit.
