TikToker @whatsinthekoolaid shared an emotional story about an 88-year-old woman she helped out at when she was working at a grocery store—and the incredibly thoughtful way the woman paid back her kindness.

Sometimes we do things wtihout knowing just how much it could change a person's life.

TikToker @whatsinthekoolaid, who used to be a grocery store employee, shared a special memory she had dating back to the year 2013 when she was still working in the grocery store primarily as a cashier.

During one of her shifts, a pair of elderly women came in together to grocery shop, and when they were done, they had separate transactions. One paid her payment without an issue, while the other realized that her purse was nowhere to be found.

The second woman became incredibly upset, between her missing purse, being an hour and half away from her home, not being able to buy her groceries and also not wanting to hold up the line.

She thought she'd have to ask the cashier to put all of her items back, but that's when the TikToker decided to help her. The woman's transaction was a little over $27, and with only $40 to her name, the TikToker paid it with a swipe of her personal card.

The TikToker assumed that was the end of it, but the woman reappeared at the store weeks later, looking for her.

The woman thanked the TikToker again for helping her and explained that because of her age and health issues, she rarely got to go out, so going out with her friend was the one time she could go grocery shopping. Because of the TikToker, she'd been able to eat that week.

To thank her, the woman had gone shopping with her friend again, this time in search of a special gift for the TikToker. She spent a long time looking for the "perfect gift" for her before she found an angel statue, which she felt was perfect, because she felt like the cashier was an "angel sent from heaven" just for her that day.

Though the TikToker could no longer remember the woman's name, and assumed she might not still be with us based on her physical state at the age of 88 in 2013, she still kept the angel statue and remembered the woman, and her gratitude, as one of the most profound experiences of her life.

It was a big deal for the TikToker to spend $27 on a stranger when she only had $40 to her name, but she'd impacted the elderly woman's life more than she even could have realized by helping her in that moment.

More importantly, in some small way, she's keeping the woman's memory alive by sharing their story, and that's all that many of us could ask for.
