Hilton Gets Put On Blast For Hosting 'Globalist' Conference With Steve Bannon

Hilton Gets Put On Blast For Hosting 'Globalist' Conference With Steve Bannon

Hilton Hotels has been called out on Twitter for hosting a conference about "globalists," an antisemitic far-right byword for Jews, hosted by infamous right-wing provocateur Steve Bannon.

Bannon, the former chairman of alt-right propaganda site Breitbart and an instrumental part of former Republican President Donald Trump's political rise, will headline the absurdly titled "Globalist Puppet Masters" conference at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Torrance California this weekend.

The event focuses on the so-called "globalists," a far-right slur with antisemitic roots that stretch back centuries, currently running the world, an obsession of right-wing extremist circles and conspiracy theories like QAnon.

The event is produced by the American Freedom Alliance, designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for its virulent Islamophobic and anti-immigrant sentiment.

Given the extremist nature of the event and Bannon's conviction for his role in helping organize the January 6 insurrection, many called out the Hilton company for being willing to host the event.

The hotel chain has been called out by MSNBC contributor Ruth Ben-Ghiat, an expert on fascism, as well as anti-fascist activists outraged by their willingness to host what one organizer called an "openly antisemitic fash conference."

The term "globalist" and the idea behind it has roots in a centuries-old conspiracy theory that Jewish people run worldwide systems of finance, government and media and cannot be trusted to be faithful to any nation they live in, as they are actively attempting to take over the world by ushering in a "New World Order" of tyranny.

The notions behind the term were an essential part of Adolph Hitler's Nazi regime and campaign of Jewish genocide.

The event Bannon is headlining focuses on a laundry list of unhinged, far-right conspiracy theories and includes a who's who of fascist and "anti-woke" crusaders expounding on nonsense like "Agenda 21," the theory the United Nations is actively preparing to take over the United States.

That theory has been vociferously pushed by the American Freedom Alliance, which also has ties to right-wing extremist militias like the anti-immigrant group the Minutemen.

Hilton has responded to the controversy via emails to activists who contacted the company to demand the event be canceled.

In one of the emails, the General Manager of the DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance told an activist that the event would not be canceled. The email read in part:

“Unfortunately, we cannot cancel our agreement. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Torrance is in no way affiliated with the American Freedom Alliance or Steve Bannon. The hotel does not discriminate against guests or conferences that wish to utilize our facilities. We welcome everyone to our hotel and do everything we can to ensure a safe place for all."

That has done little to quell the anger on Twitter over the event.

Bannon is awaiting sentencing after being convicted of contempt of Congress for failing to respond to a subpoena from the House Select Committee on January 6 seeking testimony for his role in the event.

He has also been charged with money laundering, fraud and conspiracy in the state of New York for his "We Build the Wall" scheme.

NBC Apologizes After Commentators Repeatedly Misgendered Trans Winter Olympic Skier

The International Olympic Committee is still trying to figure out what their position on transgender inclusion looks like and how decisions are made regarding which events athletes compete in. In the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Filipino boxer Hergie Bacyadan, a transgender man, had to compete in the women’s event because of their stage in their transition.

In the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics this year, per International Ski Federation regulations, Swedish moguls skier Elis Lundholm also has to compete in the women’s moguls event because he hasn't begun a masculinizing hormone replacement therapy regimen yet.
