Florida Republican Representative Matt Gaetz attempted to bestow a nickname upon his fellow Republican colleague Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia only for it to backfire.

Referring to her as the "MAGA Queen," Gaetz aimed to align Greene with the fervent Trump-supporting base.

His post came in response to a report that Greene had announced impeachment charges against a Biden administration official while he testified about the administration's response to migrant crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border.

You can see Gaetz's tweet below.

However, critics wasted no time in taking to Twitter to express their skepticism about the intended meaning behind the nickname, highlighting the contentious nature of both lawmakers.

Both Greene and Gaetz have been embroiled in controversy due to their unwavering support for former President Donald Trump and their baseless claims that he won the 2020 election.

This shared belief has earned them a reputation as far-right firebrands and conspiracy theorists, drawing criticism from across the political spectrum.

Interestingly, earlier this year, Greene publicly rebuffed Gaetz's praise when he congratulated her on securing committee assignments.

Greene had faced previous repercussions for her past inflammatory statements and promotion of conspiracy theories, leading to her removal from congressional panels two years ago. Gaetz, however, commended her for earning seats on the Homeland Security Committee and Oversight Committee.

In response, Greene refused to acknowledge Gaetz's accolades and redirected her gratitude towards House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for granting her the committee assignments she had requested. She also took the opportunity to criticize Gaetz for his role in the House speaker vote, further underscoring the discord between the two lawmakers.

Greene today announced she would officially introduce impeachment articles against President Joe Biden, charging he had abused his power by "endangering the security of the United States and thwarting the will of Congress" in response to migrant crossings.
