There's so much secrecy surrounding the finale of Game of Thrones, and rightfully so. If you ask any cast member involved about how the HBO series will wrap up, you wouldn't get a straight answer.
That's because the actors themselves don't even know the fate of their own characters.
The Hollywood Reporter caught up with British actress Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys, during Wednesday's Awards Chatter Podcast and couldn't get her to spill the beans on any spoilers about the show's endgame, with good reason.
In an age where pirated scripts ruin the fun for everyone, studios have become more protective of major plot points by devising various tactics to prevent the leaking of top secret information prior to airing.
According to Clarke, GOT creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wrote multiple endings for the show, each intended to be filmed in case one of the scripts leak to the public. Viewers would find out how the show ends when the eighth and final episode airs in 2019.
I don't know that I even do [know how it ends] now. I'm being serious. I think they're filming a bunch of stuff and they're not telling us. I'm being serious. I'm being deadly serious. I think that they don't even trust us.
There's lots of different endings that could happen. I think we're doing all of them and we aren't being told which is actually what's going to happen.
During the same interview, Clarke commented on how the public was always fascinated about the actress doing nude scenes on GOT.
The volume of interest in the fact that I took my clothes off is astonishing to me. Emilia Clarke didn't go up on stage and go, 'What up guys? Check out these guys [her breasts]!' That didn't happen. I took on a character, and the character had things happen to her ... It is something that I get asked more than any other question ... It genuinely is something that I find really difficult handling.
The cast is currently in the middle of production for the final season, but the inevitable end to the show's long reign on HBO is making Clarke feeling a bit melancholy.
It's incredibly emotional, this final season that we're in the middle of right now. I truly get really emotional just even thinking about the end of the show [because] what you're leaving behind is everything that has happened to me in my 20s — 10 years of my life was woven within the show. You know, there's so much that's happened to all of us, and you're walking away from all of that.
Fans are already preparing themselves for the final season.
And now, we wait until 2019 to learn the final outcome of the show that's become a huge pop-cultural phenomenon. But we won't be seeing the end of Clarke's acting career. Her resume has expanded into another universe as she's signed on to do multiple Star Wars films in the future. First up for Clarke is a featured role in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, and we can hardly wait to see her shine in a new role.
