The rocker told SiriusXM’s Jim Rotolo how attempting to sing was 'killing me' due to peptic ulcer disease, which forced him to postpone his world tour in September of last year.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are back on the road after having to postpone their world tour back in September due to the rocker's battle with peptic ulcer disease—and in a new interview on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio with Jim Rotolo, Springsteen said he "literally couldn't sing at all" while he was dealing with the condition.

Springsteen said the disease, which can cause severe abdomen pain, was "killing" him when he tried to sing.

“You sing with your diaphragm. My diaphragm was hurting so badly that when I went to make the effort to sing, it was killing me, you know?”
“So, I literally couldn’t sing at all, you know, and that lasted for two or three months, along with just a myriad of other painful problems.”

Though he was told the symptoms would go away eventually, Springsteen wasn't too sure, given the intense pain he was experiencing.

“You’re thinking like, ‘Hey, am I gonna sing again?’”
“And you know, this is one of the things I love to do the best, the most, and right now I can’t do it.”

But eventually, the pain did subside, and the singer expressed his gratitude for his doctors.

“It took a while for the doctors to say, ‘Oh no, you’re gonna be OK.'"
“At first, nobody was quite saying that, which made me nervous, you know. And at the end of the day, I found some great doctors and they straightened me out, and I can’t do anything but thank them all.”
