If you ever met a President, what's the first thing you'd say to them?
Would it be a question about the process of government?
A word of gratitude for their service?
Maybe a bit of constructive criticism?
Or would you lovingly, jokingly, but nonetheless explicitly, call him an asshole?
Well, if you're Anna Kendrick, it's the latter.
During an appearance Friday on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Kendrick finally explained the origins of this epic Instagram post from 2012 when President Barack Obama was still in office.
But what had the POTUS doubled over in hysterics?
Kendrick told Colbert:
"I called him an asshole and scolded him for not knowing enough about the 50 states."
Kendrick, who hails from the state of Maine, arrived early to a meet-and-greet with Obama back in 2012. She struck up a chat with one of his Secret Service agents, who was also from Maine.
Small world!
During his talk, Obama singled Kendrick out for praise for her performance in the 2009 film Up in the Air, then brought it up again during their one-on-one, saying, "I hope I didn't embarrass you earlier."
To which Kendrick responded:
"Yeah, you're such an asshole."
Then, when Obama mentioned she hails from Maine, Kendrick joked about being early, claiming that people from Maine are extremely punctual, but Obama did not know about her made up stereotype.
Kendrick said:
"I was like, 'You didn't know that? You're the president.' So I called him an asshole and scolded him for not knowing enough about the 50 states. And that was what made him double over with laughter, yayyyyyy,"
Some folks on social media were as delighted as Obama was.
But some couldn't help but lament the way times have changed.
But most people couldn't help but be delighted by Anna's moxie.
So there you have it! The way to Obama's funny bone is to insult him.
Who knew?
But a word of advice: probably best not to try this on the current President. He's a bit more on the sensitive side.
