A January 3rd news clip of a woman climbing the outside of a Mayan pyramid in Chichen Itza, the site of a formerly prosperous Mayan city-state, has gone viral and renewed outrages at the woman's misconduct.

The clip, which says the woman scaled the pyramid to scatter her husband's ashes, shows the woman slithering bizarrely up and down the stair-like structure on the front of the pyramid.

The woman's bizarre style of movement lead to the theory that something else entirely was at play here--not just stupid white people-isms.

"When will the colonizer learn to not go around disrespecting sacred indigenous sites?" said @themarccanthonyy, who reposted the video.

"See the way homegirl started slithering like a snake when she got up there? … Mess around and find out, 'cause she did."

The pyramid at Chichen Itza is dedicated to Kukulcan, a feathered serpent god of the Ancient Mayans, who was known as Quetzlcoatl by the Aztecs and Incas. Kukulcan was thought of as creator and master of rain and wind.

Several people theorized that the slithering movement that the woman exhibited at the top of the pyramid was brought on by Kukulcan himself, cursing her into serpent-like movement for desecrating the temple.

"The truth is that nobody knows why she decided to climb up, especially like this," the voice noted toward the end, ominously underscoring the unsettling nature of the unknown woman's decision to scale the pyramid.

After getting down, the woman was taken into custody in Pisté, where she was charged by local authorities.

The woman Is not the first person to try and scale the pyramid in recent memory: in 2018, a visitor attempted to scale the structure in order to "take a selfie" and "absorb energy."

People have not been allowed to climb or explore the pyramids or monuments Chichen Itza since 2006, when a climber fell to her death from the pyramid.
