In one scene, the video depicts an auditorium with tiered seating facing a stage where a towering gold statue of Trump is shown raising his fist.
Trump has long demonstrated a preference for gold décor and has even added gilded accents and furniture to the Oval Office to match his aesthetic of choice.
He has also been known to openly promote his own likeness; the White House these days even displays a portrait of him surviving his 2024 assassination attempt and the administration has displayed banners of Trump's face at the Department of Justice.
Newsom responded to the revelation that Trump intends to unveil a gold statue of himself at his upcoming presidential library with a post on X comparing Trump to other authoritarian leaders who had gold statues of their own, including former Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong, North Korea’s Kim Il-Sung and Turkmenistan’s Saparmurat Niyazov:
"The gold statue in Trump’s new library (of himself) looks awfully familiar to a few others from around the world."

Newsom clocked the narcissism immediately—and people pointed out this is just another example of Trump—who infamously declared he would be a dictator on "day one"—living out his dictatorial aspirations.
According to the renderings, Trump’s presidential library would be housed in a skyscraper with the name TRUMP displayed in large capital letters at the top. In the images, the proposed tower looms over the surrounding Miami skyline.
The nearby Freedom Tower—once a refugee processing center for Cuban asylum seekers and now a museum—appears only about a quarter of the size of the planned structure.
The Trump Library Foundation received nonprofit status from the IRS through an unusually swift approval process. Much of the public funding the foundation has secured so far has come from high-profile settlements with media companies following lawsuits filed by Trump.
Tax filings indicate the foundation aims to raise nearly $1 billion over the next three years while Trump remains in office. Presidential libraries are also one of the few avenues through which sitting presidents can accept foreign donations without being required to publicly disclose the donors.
The self-described democratic socialist was using the video to announce enforcement actions resulting in a $1.5 million–$1.8 million labor law settlement against fast-food franchisees. The settlement with Salz Management LLC involved 24 Taco Bell and Dunkin' locations—hence the video's menu—over violations regarding scheduling and "clopening" shifts.

MAGA influencers David "Gunther Eagleman" Freeman of Texas and Brandon Straka of Nebraska took to X to complain about the New York City mayor's video.
The men complained because Zohran Mamdani eats on camera. Or eats Taco Bell. Or speaks while eating. Or talks with his mouth full. Or discusses "policy" while eating Munchkins.
It's not really clear exactly what their issue is or why two men living nowhere near New York City think they have a dog in this fight.
Texan Freeman, a.k.a. Eagleman, captioned his video clip:
"Why is Zohran Mamdani shoving his face, speaking with a mouth full of food about sour cream and worker protection enforcement?"
"Communism is quickly proving to be pure idiocracy and hopefully New Yorker's wake up and STOP voting for dipsht commie dems."
"It's the ONLY WAY to save the city."
Corn husker Straka captioned his repost of the clip Freeman shared:
"Zohran Mamdani draws criticism after a clip shows him speaking with his mouth full while discussing policy."
"Calls grow for New Yorkers to rethink their leadership choices."
The MAGA minions jumped into the comments—with all the dignity and grammar people have come to expect—to voice their own concerns.
Most also had no connection to New York City.

But MAGA minions weren't the only people in their comments or who noticed their posts.
Many questioned the men's priorities.
Others had a direct message for "Gunther Eagleman" or Brandon Straka.

Including calling out David "Gunther Eagleman" Freeman for his own eating habits.
This wasn’t the first time MAGA had a meltdown over Mamdani eating.
During his mayoral campaign, Mamdani was criticized for eating rice and lentils with his hands.
It's a good thing there's nothing important to be concerned about.
The Devil Wears Prada star Anne Hathaway has borne the brunt of these negative mindsets for most of her acting career, simply because she will not answer certain questions.
In a video called "Controversial Anne Hathaway Moments," a content creator spliced together five video clips of Hathaway during interviews and interacting with fans.
During the first clip, Hathaway was talking to a reporter who was prying about one of Hathaway's films and interactions with one of her costars. When the reporter asked if the two actors had ever discussed the project in private, Hathaway said yes.
But when the reporter dug for more information, wanting to know what was discussed, Hathaway pointedly asked:
"Why would I tell you?"
In the second clip, while discussing Les Misérables, a reporter tried to shift the conversation into a very personal direction, asking Hathaway about her love life and if she remembered her first crush.
To each question, Hathaway sweetly said, "No," actively shutting down the direction of the conversation.
In the third clip, while being asked if she was having a good time, a man off-camera asked to see her accessories, which she declined to show.
In the fourth clip, while chatting with Jimmy Fallon, she admitted to feeling comfortable with him, while feeling nervous around certain Broadway actors, which Fallon joked was a backhanded compliment to him.
In the fifth clip, Hathaway stood outside of her vehicle, trying to calm down fans. While they yelled for photos and signatures, Hathaway said she couldn't take pictures with everyone, but offered to stand in place, smile, and wave so people could photograph her.

Fortunately, not everyone was willing to remain silent about the critiques of Hathaway, including one of her former costars.
Baylen Bielitz, who starred as her son in the 2024 psychological thriller Mother's Instinct, stepped up to defend Hathaway, pointing out that she was as genuine off-camera as she appeared to be when cameras were rolling.
Bielitz commented:
"I worked with Anne professionally on a movie. I played her son, actually."
"She is kind and sincere and real. Working with her had an impact on me."
"She is an amazing actress, but who she is when the cameras are not rolling is inspirational."

Because actors are so frequently in the public eye, some people believe that every detail of their lives should be available for public consumption.
But actors are just as human as their greatest fans, and declining to take photographs when there's a huge crowd, not sharing intimate details of dating off-set, and not wanting to show luxury accessories is far from being "rude" or "controversial."
