Five fetuses were found in the home of anti-abortion activist Lauren Handy after Washington D.C. police received a tip about "potential bio-hazard material" in her home.
Handy is a leader of a group called Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU). She calls herself a "Catholic anarchist."
Investigative reporter Nathan Baca said:
"Handy declined to speak on camera Wednesday but told WUSA9 she expected the raid to happen 'sooner or later.'"
And when asked to disclose what is in the coolers at her home, Handy declined to comment and only said that "people would freak out when they heard."
Her prophecy was an understatement.
According to Buzzfeed News, the gruesome discovery was made after the US Department of Justice had announced federal charges against Lauren Handy and eight others tied to an incident in 2020 where they allegedly attempted to prevent abortions from happening inside a reproductive health clinic by breaking into it and barricading themselves inside.
Following the report of Handy being indicted on felony conspiracy charges after officers raided her home on Wednesday, the phrase, "Five Fetus Lady," began trending on Twitter.
PAAU issued a statement explaining that, prior to the arrest, one of the defendants from the federal criminal case "privately arranged for Washington, D.C. Police homicide unit to pick up five recently–discovered bodies of aborted babies for forensic examination."
The statement continued:
"Their late gestational ages and their apparent sustained injuries suggested possible violations of he federal Partial Birth Aborion Act and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act."
"These babies were given to police based on the suspicion of these violations."
