Netflix Changed The Emotional Ending Of 'The Notebook' For Its Streaming Users, And Fans Aren't Happy About It

The Notebook is considered by many to represent what we all love most in romance movies.

So it came as a surprise to Netflix viewers when they turned on the classic film, only to find that the ending had been changed, and not necessarily for the better.

Warning: The Notebook spoilers ahead!

In countries where The Notebook appeared on the streaming service Netflix, the last scene of the movie now seemed to imply that Noah and Allie were still alive and well.

Fans were not happy.

Some people online questioned whether this might have been the ending all along, but they were swiftly put into their place by TRUE Notebook fans.

Some Twitter users pointed out this alternate ending was similar to the ending of the novel on which the movie was based.

As long as Netflix was making changes to the classic movie, some fans wondered whether it might be possible to make a couple more tweaks...

If Netflix changed The Notebook, what else have they messed with?

For now, the changes are only affecting Netflix viewers outside of the United States, but The Notebook will soon become available in the U.S. as well...with the same alternate ending!

There were those who believed the purists sticking up for the movie's original ending were making a mountain out of a mole-hill.

There's only one way to settle this argument: watch both version of The Notebook and see which one holds up better.

The video, posted on Instagram, shows a group of Iraqi sports fans standing in an airport holding a banner with Arabic and Spanish writing. The fans were there to support Iraq during their World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, which resulted in a 2-1 upset victory earlier that day.
