Now that it's 2021, a lot of us are doing our best to be grateful for what we have.

This recently included "Mercy" and "Stitches" singer Shawn Mendes, who shared his gratefulness for being alive, beautiful mornings and, let's not forget, music.

Mendes posted a selfie on Instagram with his arms stretched open wide, shirtless, with his eyes closed and face tipped up toward the sunlight with a large field trailing behind him.

In the caption, Mendes wrote:

"Grateful. The sun, coffee, my health, my family, old Mariah Carey songs, music, humans!!!"

Most of this is very sweet and makes sense; we can all relate to loving the sun and some version of coffee.

Maybe the exclamation points were a bit much.

And what is this about "old Mariah Carey songs"?!

Well, rest assured, Mendes' post didn't go unnoticed, even by the Queen MC herself.

But "Butterfly" and "Daydream" singer Mariah Carey didn't just respond to Mendes' Instagram post, oh no.

Instead, Carey recreated the photo on Twitter with arms stretched wide, sunshine, and all.

A beautiful autumn-like setting was behind her as Carey stretched her arms wide and smiled up toward the sky, looking absolutely grateful.

Carey captioned the photo:

"Grateful. The sun, tea, my health, my family, old Shawn Mendes songs, music, humans!!!"

The difference in the lengths of their careers aside, this was an expert-level, friendly jab at her fellow artist.

We're here for the comradery, and so was Twitter. Clearly, Mariah Carey had her viewers "in stitches."

Some simply came along for the humor.

Others were not ready for Mariah Carey's level of "shade."

Some couldn't get past the "old Shawn Mendes songs."

And of course, a few had to point out: there's no such thing as an "old Mariah Carey song."

It would have been one thing if the artists had been actively jabbing at each other's age or musical talents or how they made it through 2020. But since this was clearly for fun, it was really hilarious to watch the banter.

Bring on the old Shawn Mendes songs!

AOC Has Mic Drop Response To MAGA Republicans Who Try To Mock 'Democratic Priorities'

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued a powerful rebuke against President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, pointing out why mocking things like affordable housing and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as "Democrat priorities" ultimately hurts Republicans.

Ocasio-Cortez, speaking during a CNN town hall alongside Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders, accused Republicans of refusing to work to end the government shutdown, stressing that the country’s health care system could collapse if Republicans refuse to meet Democrats’ demands in negotiations.

GOP Rep. Blames Coordinated 'Ruse' After Swastika Image Is Seen Displayed In His Office

Ohio Republican Representative Dave Taylor demanded an investigation after a swastika image was found on display in his Washington, D.C., office, and blamed it on a "targeted" "ruse."

Politico obtained a photo from a virtual meeting showing a distorted image of the American flag—its red and white lines altered into the shape of a swastika— pinned to what appears to be a cubicle wall behind Angelo Elia, a staffer for Taylor. Beside it hung a pocket Constitution and a congressional calendar. Elia’s involvement in the incident, if any, remains unclear.
