The star of Walk the Line and Gladiator is nearly unrecognizable as The Joker.
Joaquin Phoenix has a reputation for burying himself in the roles he plays, but an Instagram post of Phoenix portraying "Arthur" has everyone doing a double take. The photo was posted by Todd Phillips, the director of the upcoming Joker movie, to his Instagram account.
There is something very creepy and kind of sad about Phoenix, who has clearly slimmed way down for the role.

People aren't sure what to make of this.
Some folks were already guessing what look Phoenix's Joker may take on.
And drawing comparisons with some mighty big shoes to fill.
People are on the fence about the production but most think Phoenix can handle the role.
