TikToker @realprogressive11, a rural Michigan resident, is tired of dancing around the subject and is ready to call it like it is: according to her, grocery shopping has become a "dystopian" experience.
And based on other TikTokers' experiences, this isn't specific to Michigan.
After her latest shopping trip, TikToker @realprogressive11 felt moved to speak up about her experience, referencing the price of tomatoes and bread.
"Things are becoming so dystopian."
"I paid two dollars and fifty cents for a tomato. A tomato!"
"You have to spend five dollars for two cups of cheese."
"A loaf of bread has stickers, 'Sale sale sale,' all over it, but you can't get it for under five bucks!"
According to the TikToker, 70% of the area voted for President Donald Trump, and the area was in the top 10% of poverty-stricken areas in the state. Where it was once obvious in public who voted for him, based on tattoos, t-shirts, and MAGA hats, people have stopped advertising who they voted for.
Their attention is much more focused now on checking prices, researching quantities and ingredients, and asking employees questions about the products, trying to determine what they can afford.
The TikToker said:
"The store was packed, and everybody was moving so slow, because they were studying everything in shock."

Fellow TikTokers felt seen in this video, gesturing to their very similar experiences in their own states.

Some have resorted to growing their own vegetables to avoid paying the extreme prices.

While it's weirdly reassuring to know that none of us are delusional, thinking that we imagined the prices getting out of control, it's also terrible knowing that people are struggling everywhere to put dinner on the table.
From making more affordable meals, to shopping at more cost-effective locations like Dollar Tree and Aldi, and growing our own food, there are things that we can do to lower the costs of what happens in our kitchens—but at the end of the day, it shouldn't be this hard.
After years of speculation, the tea has finally been spilled about who inspired Elijah Krantz and Dill Harcourt's relationship.
In case you missed it, the hit TV show Girls aired for six seasons from 2012 to 2017, and followed the lives of four young women making their way through early romance and career moves in New York City.
A key side character was Elijah Krantz, played by Andrew Rannells, who dumps the lead female character, Lena Dunham's Hannah Horvath, before coming out as gay. Throughout the rest of the show, Elijah navigates a number of relationships as a newly-out individual, and one that caused speculation was his relationship with Dill Harcourt in season five.
Harcourt immediately had everyone wondering if he could be based on Anderson Cooper, because he was noticeably older than Elijah, and he was also a publicly out, smart, and charismatic news anchor.
For years, Lena Dunham, who was the main writer of the show, refused to answer who the character was based on, and Andrew Rannells also remained very tight-lipped about men he had dated who might have inspired subplots on the show. Even Anderson Cooper didn't know what to say, though he said it would be flattering.
However, in 2026, about ten years after the show ended and more than two decades since he dated him, Andrew Rannells has finally spilled the beans and can confirm that Dill Harcourt was, in fact, based on Anderson Cooper.
While appearing on Daily Beast's Obsessed Podcast, Rannells shared:
"I told Lena and Jenni Konner a story about when I was 25 that I had dated Anderson Cooper, and I told them about the experience and what that was like..."
"And then it became the story that Elijah had in the series.”
You can catch the moment here:
Fans on multiple platforms were beside themselves, finally getting their suspicions confirmed.

In season five, Elijah gets his heart broken by Harcourt after finding out that he had been dating around, and while he finally felt ready to settle into a long-term relationship, it wasn't Elijah who he had his eye on.
The specific details of the subplot belong to the show, rather than to Rannells' real-life dating experience, but it's still fun to think about how Harcourt's personality reflects that of Anderson Cooper. Hopefully he'll be as flattered as he said he would be.
American actor and singer Zendaya and British actor and dancer Tom Holland first met in 2016 during the screen test and casting process for their roles in the 2017 Marvel made/Sony approved movie Spider-Man: Homecoming. The pair, both born in 1996, were successful child actors transitioning into adults, but still playing teens on camera.
They became fast friends, but didn't begin dating until sometime later, even if fans thought the attraction happened much sooner. They finally confirmed their relationship in 2021.
Despite their very public professions, they've kept their personal lives private. There were no big announcements when they got engaged—or, apparently, when they got married.
People have speculated online and in entertainment media that the duo had tied the knot after a seeming slip of the tongue by Zendaya's longtime stylist Law Roach, but nothing official was announced by Holland, Zendaya, or their management until a recent Esquire UK article.
While speaking about viral AI images that portrayed Holland and Zendaya as bride and groom, interviewer Henry Wong asked if the pair had to explain to family members that the photos weren't really from their wedding.
After a "six seconds, to be exact" pause, Holland replied:
“No, because they were all there."
After a surprised Wong told Holland he hadn't realized the wedding had already occurred, the actor responded:
"That’s all you’ll get on that."
Holland gave no details on their nuptials, but did have some lovely words for his partner, telling Wong:
"Our business can present very stressful situations and it’s really nice to have a bedrock of a relationship that will stand the test of time. We can support each other in ways that only we can, because only we understand really what it’s like to live this life, and I think that is such a luxury, because I just don’t understand how I would be able to have anything like that with anyone else."
"So, for me, I found my person. She’s my best friend, and I’m the happiest I ever have been when I’m with her, but I also have never felt so supported and safe, ever. Period. Maybe when I was young with my parents and my dad was picking me up from school. Not to say that our relationship is like my mum and dad."

While Wong respected Holland's boundaries, the internet quickly lost its collective mind over the news and how it broke.
Holland gained a reputation for inadvertently spilling the beans after revealing a little too much about his Marvel films.
If the interpretation of Holland's comments during his Esquire UK interview is correct, congratulations to them both on their nuptials!
May they enjoy a long and happy marriage.
Conservative TV host Elisabeth Hasselbeck first gained public notice in 2001 as a contestant on the second season of the CBS reality show Survivor, then she furthered her fame by marrying NFL player Tim Hasselbeck the following year.
After that, she became the conservative voice on The View for a decade (2003-2013), frequently clashing with her co-hosts and garnering animosity from viewers. Portraying herself as a trad-wife while in reality being a working mother, her next stint was on Fox News' Fox & Friends from 2013 to 2015 before being replaced by Sean Hannity paramour Ainsley Earhardt.
Beginning June 15, 2026, Hasselbeck was back on TV as a guest host on CBS Mornings. According to Variety, the now right leaning network—under the influence of Bari Weis—is doing on-air testing of several hosts for their morning news and entertainment program in an effort to "revamp" the show.
Similar revamping is being done on the network's flagship news program 60 Minutes, causing a great deal of public outcry.
Hasselbeck appeared on the program from June 15-17. During that short stint, she managed to anger viewers with an offhand comment, reminiscent of her time on The View.
On her first day as a guest host, Hasselbeck and CBS Mornings co-hosts Gayle King and Nate Burleson sat down to speak with award-winning singer, actor, writer, director, and entrepreneur Billy Porter. The Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner is part of an off-Broadway revival of the musical La Cage aux Folles with a predominantly Black cast.
After being introduced by King, Porter remarked of the upcoming production:
"It’s all joy. It’s all Black, queer joy, and we need that right now."
"It’s heartwarming. It’s lovely. It’s loving, and it’s a fabulous show."
As the interview progressed amid clips from the show's rehearsals, Hasselbeck's first contribution was to say:
"In the little tease, you talked about not really being a sports person. I’m not really a drag person, but I’m a person person. And so, we get to be who we are, and I love that about our world."
You can see the full four-minute Monday morning interview here:
CBS Mornings shared the interview on Instagram, where Hasselbeck's comment, and her presence on the show, drew significant backlash. The only positive comments were about Porter and his new project.
People made their opinion about Hasselbeck joining CBS Mornings on a more permanent basis, and the network's new direction, clear.

But the comments had nothing but love for Porter and excitement for the latest adaptation of La Cage aux Folles.

La Cage aux Folles (The Cage of Madwomen in English) was a successful French play of the farce genre which debuted in Paris in 1973. The work later spawned a French-Italian film by the same name in 1978 and a sequel, La Cage aux Folles II in 1980, before becoming a Broadway musical with a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman in 1983. A third French-Italian film sequel followed in 1985 with La Cage aux Folles 3: 'Elles' se marient.
For American audiences, the most famous adaptation of the original play was the 1996 film, retitled The Birdcage, starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.
The original play, film, and American adaptations center on two gay men, longtime romantic partners in a time before same-sex marriage was legal, who own a nightclub where drag is performed and where they raised the biological son of one of the men. The straight son, now an adult, is returning home with his fiancée and her ultra conservative parents.
For the musical revival, artist Wayne Brady will play the role of gay father George while Porter will play his partner and nightclub headliner Albin.
The Democrats' official X account mocked President Donald Trump after the Obama Foundation released the names of the musical performers taking the stage for the Obama Presidential Center opening on.
The June 18 ceremony will feature a star-studded lineup of performers spanning multiple genres, including music, film, and television.
Scheduled appearances include legendary artists Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, Common, Marc Anthony, and Tems. The lineup also includes The Roots, Bono and The Edge of U2, as well as Eddie Vedder. Actress and producer Marsai Martin is also set to participate in the event.
The Democrats couldn't resist comparing this lineup with Trump's sad Freedom 250 Concert lineup.
A side-by-side chart highlights the difference. Whereas the Obama event will feature major performers, Trump's concert is slated to include Vanilla Ice, C+C Music Factory, and Flo Rida; most other performers reportedly canceled.
You can see the post below.

Trump was mocked online last month after he complained about the artists allegedly scheduled to perform who dropped out, prompting him to suggest himself as a replacement.
Trump—whose narcissism has been in overdrive during his second term—actually referred to himself as the "Number One Attraction" in the world in a post on Truth Social. He argued that the nation's 250th anniversary celebration should feature a large MAGA rally rather than musical performers, whom he dismissed as expensive, unpopular, and overly critical.
Trump did not mention that a number of scheduled performers reportedly withdrew from the concert after expressing concerns about the event's increasingly partisan character.
Several artists ultimately distanced themselves from the concert, including Poison frontman Bret Michaels, country singer Martina McBride, Morris Day and The Commodores, rapper Young MC, and most recently Milli Vanilli's Fab Morvan. Morvan told CNN that he was backing out because “this is not what I signed up for,” underscoring concerns that the event had become more overtly political than some participants had anticipated.
Given all this, people loved the Democrats' shady response.
Don't be surprised if Trump posts a furious Truth Social post very soon.
