Speaking during a House judiciary meeting, Florida Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz mocked national security advisor Michael Waltz for using a strange series of emojis in the leaked group chat now known as "Signalgate."
Amid revelations that Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg was invited into a Signal chat with high-level Trump administration officials, particularly Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, discussing military strategy surrounding war strikes in Yemen, Moskowitz couldn't help but underscore the absurdity within the chat itself.
Before holding up a sign with the emoji combination—consisting of fist bump, American flag, and fire emojis—Moskowitz said:
“It’s always good when we have something bipartisan to point it out because it happens so little around here anymore, but rather than giving a really big, long speech I feel like I could just use this [holding up sign]."
“This will tell you that I think it’s good, right? So, like, that’s a fist, American flag, fire. From now on, when we do things where we agree, I’ll just hold this up rather than giving a really big, long speech. So job well done, guys."
Asked to provide more details, Moskowitz said:
"[This is what we write] When we're in a chat with friends when we're talking about who we're going to bomb and all of that. ... I'm holding this up. I think if we keep the committee shorter, if we agree, we just hold this up.
Asked what would happen if reporters are present in a prospective chat—and in this case there was—Moskowitz replied:
"Well, hopefully they support America and that is fire. ... We can [have a journalist in the chat] but we don't add them if we don't want them to know."
There was scattered laughter throughout Moskowitz's presentation, as you can see in the video below.
People loved Moskowitz's snark.
In remarks earlier today, President Donald Trump shifted the blame for the scandal to an unidentified, "lower level" aide to Waltz, saying, without offering any evidence, that:
“What it was, we believe, is somebody that was on the line with permission, somebody that was with Mike Waltz, worked for Mike Waltz at a lower level, had, I guess, Goldberg's number or called through the app, and somehow this guy ended up on the call."
Trump’s response came after Waltz took “full responsibility” during a television interview for inadvertently allowing journalist Jeffrey Goldberg to access the discussions.
Despite repeated denials from the Trump administration on Tuesday that any sensitive information had been leaked, The Atlantic stood by its reporting, asserting that top officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President J.D. Vance, had discussed key details of the strikes, such as targets and weapons systems.
Republican President Donald Trump lashed out at George Clooney after the Hollywood A-lister commented on 60 Minutes about how the U.S. government loathes the press regardless of their political allegiance.
Clooney, 63, was on the news magazine broadcast program to promote the Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck, adapted from the 2005 historical drama film of the same name, which he directed and co-wrote.
In Good Night, and Good Luck, Clooney makes his Broadway debut as protagonist Edward R. Murrow, a CBS journalist and host of the news program See It Now.
The story focuses on the conflict between Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy during the early 1950s era of the Red Scare when McCarthy aggressively led anti-Communist investigations in the U.S.
During a table read for the play currently in rehearsals, Clooney touched on politicians and journalists clashing and how the importance of the free press couldn't be more relevant today.
“When the other three estates fail, when the judiciary and the executive and the legislative branches fail us, the fourth estate has to succeed,” Clooney emphasized.
He continued making a point about the current unsettling climate for the news media.
“ABC has just settled a lawsuit with the Trump administration. And CBS News is in the process…" he said, referring to Trump's $20 billion lawsuit against CBS.
In October 2024, the then-presidential candidate made the unfounded allegation that the network's 60 Minutes program engaged in election interference by deceptively editing an interview with then-Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris to favor her more.
CBS has since filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
However, the network's parent company, Paramount, is currently in the process of trying to close a merger deal, which requires approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which happens to be led by Chairman Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee.
Clooney continued:
"We’re seeing this idea of using government to scare or fine or use corporations—to make journalists smaller.”
He added:
“Governments don’t like the freedom of the press. They never have."
"And that goes for whether you are a conservative or a liberal or whatever side you’re on. They don’t like the press.”

Following the March 23 airing of the 60 Minutes interview with Clooney, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to attack the press and Clooney, writing:
"Why would the now highly discredited ’60 Minutes’ be doing a total ‘puff piece’ on George Clooney, a second rate movie star and failed political pundit?”
“He fought hard for Sleepy Joe’s election and then, right after the Debate, dumped him like a dog. Later, I assume under orders from the Obama camp, pushed all out for ‘Kamala,’ only to soon realize that was not going to work out too well."
"'60 Minutes’ even fraudulently inserted Fake answers into her disastrous interview, aired just before Election Day, in one of the most embarrassing and dishonest events in broadcast history…And now George Clooney again?"
"His press agent should be making a fortune!!!” Trump added.

Trump's ongoing petulance had social media users shaking their heads.
Trump went after Clooney before when the two-time Academy Award winner wrote The New York Times op-ed asking former Democratic President Joe Biden to step down from the election to give the Democratic party a better chance at defeating Trump.
Clooney later explained to 60 Minutes why he wrote the op-ed.
“I’ll make it kind of easy. I was raised to tell the truth,” he said, adding:
“I had seen the president up close for this fundraiser, and I was surprised. And so I feel as if there was a lot of profiles in cowardice in my party through all of that. And I was not proud of that. And I also believed I had to tell the truth.”
After the NY Times published Clooney's op-ed, Trump responded on Truth Social with:
“So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act."
“He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything?…Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!”
Clooney was up for the challenge, but under one condition.
In his response to Trump's post, Clooney said on Jimmy Kimmel Live:
"I will if he does. That’s a trade-off I’d do.”
Good Night, and Good Luck, starring Clooney as Edward R. Murrow, began previews on March 12, 2025, at the Winter Garden Theatre.
The official opening for the limited engagement is scheduled for April 3, 2025 and will run through June 8, 2025.
Amid revelations that Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg was invited into a Signal chat with high-level Trump administration officials, particularly Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, discussing military strategy surrounding their war strikes in Yemen, talk show host Stephen Colbert angrily called out Hegseth for demonizing Goldberg once the scandal broke.
Instead of providing an explanation or apology, Hegseth went on the offensive, criticizing Goldberg as "deceitful and highly discredited" and dismissing him as "a guy that peddles in garbage."
Colbert proceeded to accuse Hegseth and his colleagues of incompetence so profound that they've "tried every kind of spin they can think of," adding:
"The only reason we know that they were doing any of this is because they accidentally included a journalist! What else are these 'merit-based hires posting on? What're they doing?
"Where else? For all we know for just $4.99 a month you might see the launch codes on OnlyFans."
And after showing a clip of Hegseth attacking Goldberg, Colbert asked the burning question:
"Then why. Was he. On the war planning. Group chat. Why. Was he in. The chat! 'This guy's an idiot and everyone hates him.' You're the guys who put him in the chat!"
"You did! 'He's a moron'? Okay then! Don't put him! In the secret chat! If he's a bad guy! Why's he in the chat?!"
You can hear what he said in the video below.
You can watch his full segment below.
Many concurred with Colbert's assessment.
During a Senate hearing on Tuesday, intelligence officials from the Trump administration denied that the Signal chat contained classified information.
When questioned by Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich about whether the conversation included details on "weapons packages, targets, or timing," both former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe and current DNI Tulsi Gabbard stated they were unaware of such content, with Gabbard deferring to the Department of Defense.
The Atlantic reported that it had reached out to Trump administration officials and the White House regarding the publication of the messages, given their denial that the chat contained classified material or "war plans." While most did not respond, Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt objected to the release but maintained that "no classified information was transmitted in the group chat."
Pedro Pascal has become so popular, he can't even get a martini dinner in peace!
The Mandalorian star has become a swoon-worthy heartthrob in the last few years, and his immense popularity has left his fanbase wanting to either date him or be him. But his fans are perfectly happy to speculate about his love life, too!
The latest presumed star of his affections is Friends and Murder Mystery actress Jennifer Aniston, who he was seen having a three-hour dinner with at a restaurant in L.A. last weekend.
The long "date," according to early tabloid news, "spark[ed] romance rumors" and left fans in a tizzy at the possibility. Given the popularity of both actors, and the fact that Pascal has been particularly careful and private about his friendships and love life, their mutual fans were eager for more breadcrumbs.

But Pascal was quick to shut down the rumors at the premiere of the second season of The Last of Us. When a reporter for Entertainment Tonight asked him about the dinner, he made light of it.
Pascal simply answered:
"Oh, Jennifer and I are very good friends, and I got to have dinner on Saturday. It was a fun martini dinner."
The reporter went on to ask how Pascal felt about the quick spread of the rumors, and he, in turn, complimented Aniston.
"That's her starlight. I'm just basking in it."
If there ever was a more romantic compliment, especially coming from the Mandalorian, we don't know what it could be.
Pedro Pascal is ready to come clean about his relationship with Jennifer Aniston... or is he?

Though Pedro Pascal made light of the rumors, that didn't stop fans from speculating.

Since he's been so private in the past about his dating life, it's easy to imagine that he might be concealing early relationship developments with Aniston by brushing off rumors.
Then again, an inside connection pointed out that Aniston admired Pascal and was eager to work with him. She's said in the past of actors like Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Adam Sandler, that she particularly enjoys playing off of actors who challenge her to be her sharpest and funniest, and Pascal would certainly fit the bill.
Actor Nathan Lane, on publicity tour for a new TV series, discussed old films and old chances in an interview with Vanity Fair recently.
The actor—a Tony, Emmy, Screen Actors Guild, and Laurence Olivier award winner—talked about how all the awards in the world did not land him a role in the iconic movie Space Jam back in 1997.
Lane went on to explain why: he's gay.
Less openly so at the time, but he had just come off filming The Birdcage with Robin Williams, a reimagined Cage Aux Folles, wherein a young man finds himself trying to introduce his fiancée and her buttoned-up family to his fathers, who run a drag club.
Lane says that he auditioned for the part of Stan Podolak, Michael Jordan's assistant, but that it ultimately went to actor Wayne Knight, a Seinfeld star. The director, Lane says, could not see him in the role due to his sexual orientation.
"Apparently the director [Joe Pytka] saw me hosting the Tony Awards and thought that suggested I was too gay to play the part."
However, Lane probably dodged a big one, as at the time, no actor would even touch the movie. However, it still was galling to find out the reason.
“So thank God, I didn’t have to do ‘Space Jam...But I don’t know. I’ll never know what people say. Homophobia is alive and well, still.”
People were sad to hear the news, but were conflicted because Wayne Knight did such a memorable job as the character many assumed Lane was aiming to play.
Lane's longtime fans were saying just how good he is in his other roles, and could have been in Space Jam.
Lane's comments reminded people of the trainwreck of an interview that Oprah did at the time.
The talk show host was interviewing Lane and Robin Williams about their movie The Birdcage, and Oprah basically asked Lane if he was gay.
Williams then spun into action to distract from the rude question.

While people realized that Lane was probably auditioning for the part that Wayne Knight eventually got, some people got a little joking in the comments.

Alas, many people said, it was really a different time in the late '90s when this was all going down.
Finally, there was incredulity that, of all movies, Space Jam was the film that Lane was rejected from.
Lane is currently appearing in the Hulu comedy series Mid-Century Modern, premiering on March 28.
