Michigan Sheriff Tosses Aside His Riot Gear To Join George Floyd Protesters In Powerful Moment Of Solidarity

As protests erupt into conflict all over the United States, a Sheriff in Genesee County, Michigan showed what might be possible at many of the daytime protests if law enforcement officers choose peace.

Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson was captured in many live videos putting down his riot gear and choosing to join a march in solidarity with the citizens protesting police brutality.

Addressing the protestors, Swanson said:

"We want to be with y'all for real so I took the helmet off and laid the batons down."

According to The New York Post, Swanson says he was prepared to greet protestors in full riot gear.

But he saw an "opportunity" for togetherness when he saw one of his officers fist bump a protestor.

Swanson spoke to a leader of the protest.

"And I said, 'What else do I need to do?' and he said, 'Walk with us'."

Swanson decided to trust the protestors and become one of them.

He later spoke of that moment to The New York Post:

"The best moment of my police career is when I said, 'Let's walk.' And we walked over a mile back to where it started and I could feel an instantaneous peace on both sides."

While many police departments caused further outrage and controversy by physically assaulting protestorsincluding children, Swanson created positivity by remembering the core duty of his department.

In a viral video addressing the infamous video of a police officer killing George Floyd, Swanson said:

"The only reason we're here is to make sure you've got a voice. That's it. Don't think for a second that he [Chauvin] represents who these cops are from all over the county and around the nation...These cops love you … so you tell us what we need to do."

The internet was inspired by Swanson's approach.

Marching into conflict takes courage, but bravery is also being willing to choose peace.

AOC Saves The Day By Giving Bronx Middle School Group A Tour Of The Capitol Amid Shutdown

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had people cheering after she stepped in to act as tour guide after a group of middle schoolers from the Bronx pulled up to the Capitol hours after the U.S. government officially shut down.

The federal government shut down early Wednesday after the White House and Congress failed to reach an agreement on federal spending. While Senate Democrats are in the minority, they hold enough seats to filibuster and are insisting that Republicans agree to extend federal subsidies for people insured under the Affordable Care Act.

GOP Lawmaker Sparks Outrage After Calling For Dem Rep. To Be Executed For Urging People To Protest Trump

On Wednesday, September 25, an Arizona MAGA Republican state Representative publicly called for the execution of Washington Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal because she urged anyone displeased with MAGA Republican President Donald Trump's job performance to exercise their First Amendment right to free speech and to protest.

Apparently, urging citizens to make their voices heard was a step too far for Arizona state GOP Representative John Gillette, who responded to a clip edited out of a longer video by right-wing account The Patriot Oasis (TPO). A quick scan through Gillette's X account media posts will reveal his political leanings.

Liberal TikToker Mortified After Discovering That Her Therapist Is Hardcore MAGA

There used to be a time where politics did not have to come into every room or be a part of every conversation. But in a world with President Trump and MAGA, it's not as simple as being Red, Blue, or Green anymore.

Now, the sociopolitical climate is dangerous for many people and still very stress-inducing for others. It's important to surround ourselves with people who make us feel safe and seen—and unfortunately, that might mean cutting out people who have "different beliefs" than we do.
