Internet Left Stunned After Ted Cruz Actually Praises Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Advice About Social Distancing

Internet Left Stunned After Ted Cruz Actually Praises Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Advice About Social Distancing

A little over two weeks ago, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) exchanged some heated words on Twitter when Ocasio-Cortez condemned President Donald Trump's appointment of Vice President Mike Pence as the response director to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With thousands of cases now diagnosed throughout the United States, officials are urging Americans to practice "social distancing"—declining handshakes, keeping six feet away from others, and not going out unnecessarily.

Ocasio-Cortez repeated that recommendation on Twitter.

This time, she got a notably different response from Cruz.

People were pleasantly surprised to see the Trump supporter commend one of Trump's most vocal critics.

Cruz himself recently had to self-quarantine after interacting with someone who tested positive for the virus at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

The agreement of Cruz and Ocasio-Cortez signaled just how serious things have become in the face of the pandemic.

While the team-up was surprising, it isn't the first time the two have crossed ideological lines.

In the summer of last year, AOC and Cruz said they would co-sponsor legislation that would make it harder for former members of Congress to use their connections as lobbyists after becoming private citizens.

Trump made headlines this week after admonishing Israel and Iran for violating a ceasefire agreement he'd announced on Truth Social. Although he claimed the ceasefire had been "agreed upon," Iran fired at least six missile barrages at Israel after it was supposed to take effect.

State Department Slammed After Requiring Visa Applicants To Make All Social Media Posts Public For Vetting

The State Department is facing harsh criticism after it announced that anyone applying for an F, M, or J nonimmigrant visa will need to disclose all social media profiles from the last five years, requiring that all applicants set their posts to public so they can be properly vetted by its agents.

The agency said the new rules are part of a new screening process aimed at identifying individuals who may pose a threat to U.S. national security. According to the department, failure to comply could result in a denial, and consular officers have been instructed to flag signs of “hostility” toward the U.S.—though the criteria for such determinations remain vague.
