Designating a home as a primary residence, rather than a secondary home or investment property, can result in lower interest rates, as lenders view primary residences as less risky.
However, a spokesperson for Schiff’s office said the lenders for his homes in both California and Washington were “well aware” of his intended year-round use of both properties while serving in public office, adding that neither residence was considered a vacation home.
Public records tied to Schiff’s mortgage and property in Montgomery County, Maryland, show that in October 2020, he signed a document identifying the home as a second residence. In earlier filings, the same property had been listed as a primary residence.
However, experts cautioned that the documents alone don’t provide the full picture, pointing to the absence of information about any specific agreements Schiff may have had with his lender. They also noted that differing definitions of “primary residence” — between the county and mortgage providers — can create ambiguity and make it difficult to determine whether any rules were actually broken.
It's also worth noting that Schiff led impeachment proceedings against Trump while still a member of the House and Trump has often targeted Schiff for retribution.
And in recent days, Trump has been accused of refusing to release the infamous "Epstein files," which are said to contain detailed lists of some of Epstein's most high-profile enablers.
Trump, who is widely believed to be in the Epstein files, deflected calls by his MAGA base to release them, admonishing critics of his Attorney General Pam Bondi, who in her capacity leading the Department of Justice (DOJ) concluded no such list exists, despite claiming the exact opposite just months ago.
Schiff said that Trump's attack against him was just another distraction designed to take people's attention away from Epstein's case—not to mention Trump's own involvement:
"Since I led his first impeachment, Trump has repeatedly called for me to be arrested for treason. So in a way, I guess this is a bit of a letdown. And this baseless attempt at political retribution won’t stop me from holding him accountable. Not by a long shot."
"This is just Donald Trump’s latest attempt at political retaliation against his perceived enemies. So it is not a surprise, only how weak this false allegation turns out to be. And much as Trump may hope, this smear will not distract from his Epstein files problem."

Trump was similarly accused of attempting to distract from the Epstein files when he threatened to strip actor and comedian Rosie O'Donnell of her U.S. citizenship, labeling her a "Threat to Humanity" in a similarly angry post on Truth Social.
The relationship between O'Donnell and Trump, who have feuded for years, was so antagonistic that O'Donnell, fearing the worst once Trump won the election, moved to Ireland shortly before Trump’s inauguration. She has cited the risks Project 2025 and Trump's potential retribution pose to her and her nonbinary child.
O'Donnell later responded to Trump's attack by sharing one of the many photos that exist of Trump and Epstein, calling him "everything that is wrong with America," noting that he hates her for being "a loud woman, a queer woman, a mother who tells the truth, an american who got out of the country [before you] set it ablaze."
Trump has since directed Bondi to release whatever she finds "credible" in the Epstein files amid the backlash from his supporters.
Recognizing a chance to make money, the Florida GOP began selling t-shirts, hats, and can cozies emblazoned with the name.
Florida GOP Chair Evan Power told WPTV News on July 1:
"I think we're over $50,000 on the first couple of days on this."
"We've sold thousands of shirts, thousands of hats, and thousands of cozies since then."
He added:
"It fires up our voters because they're just tired of the Biden Administration prioritizing illegals over residents of Florida and residents of the United States of America."
Not wanting to miss out on the opportunity to make money off the suffering of others, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC)—a national group "devoted to increasing the number of Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives"—sent out a fundraising email.
It reads:
"That’s right! Alligator Alcatraz is officially open, and we are excited about it!!"
"So excited that we have decided to release a T-SHIRT!"

The t-shirt features the slogan "ICE with a bite," making light of the notion that alligators are there to maul and ultimately eat migrants who dare try to escape the facility.
This also maligns the largest reptile in North America, which only bounced back from near extinction due to education and concerted conservation efforts.
The American Alligator is far less aggressive than crocodiles. They typically avoid humans, and when they see one, are more likely to walk, run or swim away than attack unless they are nesting or protecting their young.
Unprovoked alligator attacks are very rare, and fatal attacks on humans average only one per year.
The email continues:
"Do you support keeping our nation safe from ILLEGAL CRIMINALS? Well, this is your chance to show support for ICE in their mission! Let’s make sure we keep our cities SAFE from criminal illegal aliens."
The merchandise is also featured on the NRCC website alongside Gulf of America-themed products.

They're also promoting the shirts on social media.
While MAGA loves all things Trump and they are willing to throw money at the latest merch, others are calling it out as tasteless.
Imprisoning immigrants abducted by Department of Homeland Security head Kristi Noem's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on the fragile ecosystem of the Everglades, near sacred sites to both the Seminole and Miccosukee Tribal Nations that have called the Everglades home for millennia, has brought pushback from Democrats, environmentalists, and Indigenous leaders.
The site was once slated to become the largest airport in the United States, but the project was abandoned after just one runway was completed when it became clear building anything on a large scale in the Everglades was idiotic.
In addition to being an environmental disaster waiting to happen, natural disasters like flooding and hurricanes were likely to wipe the airport off the map in short order.
Environmental groups have filed suit to try to block operations at the site.
Surprise, surprise, am I right?
While presenting the trophy, Trump can be seen awkwardly standing near the front, next to Chelsea captain Reece James, as he holds the cup.
The president and first lady Melania Trump attended the match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and were met with boos during the pre-game national anthem. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi also attended the game in the VIP suite, as the latter continues to avoid criticism for not releasing the now “fake” Jeffrey Epstein files.
As the Blues celebrated during the trophy presentation, Trump walked in front of the crowd of players (amid more boos), as shown in the photo from the Jumbotron below.

But on both their Instagram and X posts, the team subtly posted Trump in the very, very, very back (it helps to squint real hard) of the photo-op.
Rumors circulated that Chelsea had photoshopped the blonde, big-headed, red-tied president out of the photo, but it was just a well-timed shot taken as Trump was pushed back or disappeared into the crowd.
Brilliant!
The actual winner, Cole Palmer, who scored two goals and assisted on the winning goal by Joao Pedro, was confused about why Trump was trying to take over the moment. Trump has also claimed that he received the original gold trophy as a gift in the Oval Office at the White House, while the real winners received an engraved replica to mark the team’s victory. Strange, right?
After the game, Palmer spoke to the press about Trump monopolizing their moment:
“I knew he was going to be here, but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused.”
Join the club, Palmer. We’ve been confused about Trump since 2016!
James, the Chelsea captain, also seemed bewildered and added:
“Before they told me that he was going to present the trophy and exit the stage. I thought he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay.”
Despite the awkward moment, Palmer was praised for winning the Golden Ball as the tournament's top player.
Palmer continued:
“It’s a great feeling. Even better, because obviously everyone doubted us before the game. The gaffer [the head coach] put a great game plan out, and obviously, he knew where the space was going to be."
FIFA president Gianni Infantino invited Trump as the U.S. prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Establishing a White House Task Force, Trump appointed Andrew Giuliani, the son of disgraced mayor Rudy Giuliani, as the executive director, with overly hopeful expectations of over half a million visitors and $480 million in revenue, even as the United States continues to ban and deport international tourists and increase tariffs on other countries.
No wonder Trump was booed.

The international soccer tournament will run throughout North America, with most games scheduled in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, and at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The United States is also preparing to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles from July 14 to July 30.
Next time, the stadiums should invest in extra security to prevent another awkward Trump photo opportunity.
