Democrats recently passed a trillion dollar bipartisan infrastructure bill, which President Joe Biden will soon sign into law, but that's only one part of their infrastructure agenda.
Congressional Democrats are still in negotiations on the Build Back Better Act, a $1.75 trillion (over 10 years) package that focuses on "soft" infrastructure like lowered prescription drug prices, affordable housing, funding to offset the climate crisis, and more.
The bill doesn't have any congressional Republican support, and it needs every single Democratic Senate vote in order to bypass the filibuster through the reconciliation process. Conservative Democrats like Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona are currently stalling the bill's passage in the name of so-called fiscal responsibility.
Meanwhile, congressional Republicans are working overtime to smear the legislation, which will raise taxes on the wealthy in order to fund universal pre-k, medicare expansion, and child tax credits to everyday Americans.
Republican Congressman Chris Stewart (R-UT) was the most recent conservative to slam the bill in public, but his all-too-familiar attempt to paint it as a socialist takeover ended up promoting the bill instead.
This is what the build back better plan includes. This is the socialist laundry list that your hard-earned taxpayer money is going towards.pic.twitter.com/6TSUc2cthp— Chris Stewart (@Chris Stewart) 1636560304
Stewart laid out the so-called "socialist laundry list" of Build Back Better, which included such atrocities as "Affordable housing," "Worker training and higher education," "In-home care access," and more.
Apparently conservatives think these things are bad?
I first thought this was someone being sarcastic but, no, he thinks these are scary bad things no one would want.https://twitter.com/stewartforutah/status/1458465740168876037 …— Kevin M. Kruse (@Kevin M. Kruse) 1636671796

Republicans are doing a better job of promoting the good policies in the Build Back Better Act than Democrats themselves are.

I don't know which party this reflects worse on the competency of.https://twitter.com/stewartforutah/status/1458465740168876037 …— Matthew Chapman (@Matthew Chapman) 1636646436
How bloody twisted can a soul be to think these are bad things.

This is EVERYTHING that's wrong with the right in one tweet.https://twitter.com/StewartforUtah/status/1458465740168876037 …— AnnFromMassachusetts (@AnnFromMassachusetts) 1636723449

People preferred their tax dollars going toward this "laundry list" over going to corporate subsidies.
This is actually how I want my hard-earned taxpayer money to be spent

Why are Utah Republicans so anti-family?https://twitter.com/stewartforutah/status/1458465740168876037 …— Steve (@Steve) 1636606248

Maybe Stewart should find a new opposition strategy.
