A Film Adaptation Of A Beloved Judy Blume Novel Is Finally Underway

A Film Adaptation Of A Beloved Judy Blume Novel Is Finally Underway
Twitter Judy Blume

It has been 48 years, but fans are finally going to see a favorite Judy Blume book brought to the big screen.

James L. Brooks' Gracie Films has secured the rights to Are You There God? It's Me Margaret. Kelly Fremon Craig will adapt the story and direct.

To say Blume fans are excited is an understatement. Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, published in 1970 grew to become the tween girl bible. Although, young people and parents are much more open to discussing puberty now, at the time of the book's release, young girls didn't always have someone to ask questions about periods, bras and crushes. Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, was a game changer. The book was considered so risque that many school libraries banned it. That didn't stop girls from sharing the book and making it a best seller for over 40 years.

Blume took to Twitter to tease the new deal.
