A tanker truck overturned on a Polish highway and spilled a massive pool of chocolate, leaving a goopy mess that was far from semi-sweet.

According to the New York Times, 12 tons of chocolate spread across six lanes of traffic in both directions on the A2 motorway on Wednesday.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Only the driver suffered a broken arm, but nobody else was injured due to the lack of early morning traffic.

Rescue officials were tasked with clearing the chocolate, which posed a challenge after it solidified in the warmth of the sun. The New York Times reported:

As the chocolate dried under a mild spring sun, long lines of traffic grew on either side of the spill, and the authorities said it would probably be hours before the road was usable again.

On the bright side, the truck could've contained something more problematic.

Marlena Kukawka, a spokesperson for the police station in the small town of Slupca, said it would take hours to salvage the chocolate swamp and open the highway again for access.

We have to remove the truck from the highway first. It will take a few hours or more.

Bogdan Kowalski of Slupca's fire brigade told the AP that "the cooling chocolate is worse than snow."

Twitter users offered some sweet remedies.

Others took delight in the delectable incident.

Ants are on their way to nirvana.

Groceries are already expensive enough, and depending on where a person lives, they cannot guarantee the quality of the groceries that they're purchasing and eating. With many recalls going into effect right now, these concerns are especially important for produce.
