Last week, the Supreme Court dealt President Donald Trump a major defeat in his effort to conceal his financial records from the public eye.
In one case against New York District Attorney Cy Vance, the court ruled that the President isn't above investigation, and granted prosecutors access to the records. In a separate case, the court ruled that the Democratic House of Representatives could enforce a subpoena of the President's financial records, but would have to clarify its reasons for seeking them in the lower courts.
Trump is infamously the first presidential candidate since the Nixon era not to disclose his tax returns. While his critics and many everyday Americans think this indicates that Trump is hiding something, Trump has insisted for years that he can't release these records because he's under audit.
As recently as last week, when asked why Trump doesn't release his tax returns regardless of the Supreme Court decisions, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany once again said the President was under audit.
Over the weekend, President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, contradicted that long-held statement in an interview with Fox News' Maria Bartiromo.
Watch below.
Giuliani said:
"They have no reason to believe that there's anything wrong with his tax returns. I mean, all of these tax returns have been, by and large, maybe not the last one, but all of them have been audited. All of them have been either passed on or settled, and there should be some finality in your tax returns. In other words, we get audited, we make a deal, we pay the government. You don't come after me forever for that."
It appeared that Giuliani confirmed that, except for his most recent tax forms, the President's taxes have all been audited.
Giuliani went on to repeat conspiracy theories rooted in anti-semitism that billionaire Democratic donor George Soros singlehandedly elected thousands of pro-criminal District Attorneys. Soros is a common scapegoat in response to Democratic victories and is viewed as a sort of super villain by believers of the far-reaching QAnon conspiracy theory.
Twitter users saw the appearance as yet another instance of Giuliani's television appearances making things worse for his client.
Kinda getting why he works for free

Dang. With a lawyer like that, who needs a prosecutor? Does he come with hand cuffs and a warrant?

Wow. This guy is totally bonkers. George Soros buying DAs. Absolutely out to lunch. He needs a medical evaluation.

I especially love the part where the interviewed escapee from the Bellevue Psychiatric Ward claims that the anarchist prosecutors set conducted felons free! What a hoot! The should have a Rudy channel@on TV for general entertainment! #RudyLostIt #SupremeLoser

With Giuliani all but confirming that the President's audit is over, people want Trump to finally turn over his tax returns.
Is it me, or is Rudy the Grand Wizard of the Insane Empire?
He just literally told us that Trump can now release his tax returns, at least the ones that have been settled and fines paid.

Rudy just release them. Trump said he would when he was elected so do it. If they are audited release them. Why are we still talking about this, if there is nothing to hide do it already.

So is Donald releasing his returns tomorrow? The Audits are complete according to Rudy

Though the Supreme Court didn't shut down any possibility of Trump's financial records going public, that's unlikely to happen before the general election in November.
