On Monday morning, President Trump chatted briefly with reporters before departing for Utah. And when asked about Michael Flynn, Trump expressed sorrow for his former national security adviser.

"I feel very badly for Gen. Flynn," he told reporters. "He's led a very strong life and I feel very badly."

But then Trump went on to compare Flynn's treatment to that of Hillary Clinton, saying, "I will say this: Hillary Clinton lied many times to the FBI, nothing happened to her. Flynn lied and it destroyed his life. I think it's a shame."

He went into more detail about Clinton's alleged "lies," noting: "Hillary Clinton, on the fourth of July weekend, went to the FBI, not under oath. It was the most incredible thing anyone's ever seen. She lied many times. Nothing happened to her. Flynn lied, and it’s like, it ruined his life. It’s very unfair."

He then thanked the reporters and left.

On Friday, Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI during the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

While Trump has repeatedly stated that Flynn acted alone in contacting Russia and that he didn't know Flynn had lied to the FBI when he fired him in February, things have taken a shift in recent days. Trump and his lawyer, John Dowd, are now claiming that they did know Flynn had lied, strengthening a case against Trump for obstruction of justice.

As for Clinton, she was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, with Comey saying back in July: "Although we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information."

The same can't currently be said for Flynn and the Trump administration.
