If you were anywhere near the internet the past few days, you no doubt saw the re-release of singer Taylor Swift's album Red all but take over the collective conscious—and the fixation on actor Jake Gyllenhaal, whose jilting of the singer is said to have inspired the album's song "All Too Well," that came with it.

But Swift's fans have apparently also become obsessed with singer John Mayer, rumored to be the titular John in Swift's "Dear John" from the next album she's re-recording, Speak Now.

So much so, in fact, the singer received multiple death wishes on social media from Swift's fans over the weekend—one of which he decided to shock by actually responding.

The fan, a woman named Alondra, posted screenshots of her conversation with Mayer, and they've got lots of people cringing.

See the screenshots below.

In her DM to Mayer, Alondra wrote:

"Fu*k yourself you ugly bi*ch I hope you choke on something."

Uh, yikes.

Of course, most people send these messages to celebs never expecting in a million years to get a response. But Alondra was not so lucky this time around. As he said in his response, Mayer chose hers at random to reply to, and it was quite the shock to Alondra's system.

Mayer wrote:

"I've been getting so many messages like these the past couple days.... I'm not upset, I just tend to have a curious mind and feel compelled to ask. Do you really hope that I die?"

Awkward!

Thankfully though, Alondra and Mayer were able to reach an understanding.

Alondra sent Mayer a voice message apologizing for her DM.

She told the singer:

"My friend literally dared me to do that. She's a Taylor fan and like so am I. It was a dare. I'm sorry. I did not expect you to see."

Mayer graciously took it in stride, joking with Alondra that "There was some healing here today!" before wishing her well.

On Twitter, many people applauded Mayer's grace and chided Swift fans for going to such lengths as death wishes.

Though her and Mayer's interaction ended on good terms, Alondra was careful to warn Mayer about what might come next when Swift re-releases Speak Now, and hence "Dear John."

She told the singer:

"People are going to be 1000x meaner when [Speak Now (Taylor's Version)] is released. So take care of yourself."

Many others on Twitter echoed that sentiment.

If this past weekend's fixation with Swift and Gyllenhaal's relationship is any indication of how things might go when Speak Now (Taylor's Version) drops, "take care of yourself" seems like good advice for Mayer.

Kellyanne Conway Just Tried To Claim Trump's Divisive Speech On The National Mall Was Actually 'Inclusive'—And The Delusion Is Real

President Donald Trump's former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway was criticized after she praised his speech on the National Mall on Wednesday night by claiming on Fox News that Trump extended an "olive branch" to people who didn't vote for him.

Trump's remarks themselves resembled a campaign rally more than the unifying and "inclusive" celebration organizers had promised. Within minutes of taking the stage, he criticized former President Joe Biden without mentioning him by name, declaring that the United States had recently been "a dead country" before claiming it had become "the hottest country anywhere in the world."
