Florida Animal Sanctuary Steps In To Save Giant Wolfdog After His Owner Dumps Him At A Kill Shelter

People have long had a fascination with wild canines. Wolves have entered popular imagination, both in their realistic form as well as in mythological ones, such as werewolves, and in extinct ones, such as direwolves.

So, it's only natural that people would try to domesticate these majestic animals by cross-breeding them with domestic dogs. The result has been the "wolfdog." However, they can be unexpectedly difficult pets for those who choose to have them. Because of this, they often get left behind by their owners. Enter Shy Wolf Sanctuary. They not only rescue wolves and foxes, but they have taken in many an abandoned wolfdog.

One of their employees, Brittany Allen, graced us with a video of one of the wolfdogs rescued by Shy Wolf Sanctuary. Meet Yuki.

Allen told Bored Panda...

"His DNA testing came back as 87.5 % Gray Wolf, 8.6 % Siberian Husky, and 3.9 % German Shepherd."

The other wolfdogs at Shy Wolf Sanctuary seem to be having a grand old time.

Yuki even celebrated his birthday earlier this month!

Look at that happy face!

He loves to get a good lick in.

Yuki had been abandoned by his owners and was up for euthanization until the Shy Wolf Sanctuary rescued him.

Hopefully, he now has many more happy years to come!
