MSNBC Host Calls Out Former Trump Advisor for Plotting 'Coup' on January 6

MSNBC Host Calls Out Former Trump Advisor for Plotting 'Coup' on January 6
MSNBC

Former President Donald Trump's ex-trade advisor, Peter Navarro, is currently on a media tour hawking his book while attempting to sanitize the administration's efforts to overthrow the results of the 2020 election.

Navarro has decried the deadly insurrection against the United States Capitol that occurred on January 6 of last year, when Congress convened in a joint session to nationally acknowledge the certification of each state's electoral votes and further confirm then-President-elect Joe Biden's victory. The violence was the culmination of the Trump administration's months-long smear campaign against the validity of American democracy.

In a bizarre display of mental gymnastics, Navarro has defended his and Trump's efforts to gather enough representative and senators to object to the electoral votes of swing states Trump lost, in hopes of tossing out enough states' votes to deliver Trump a second term.

Navarro told the Daily Beast last month:

“We spent a lot of time lining up over 100 congressmen, including some senators. It started out perfectly. At 1 p.m., [Republican Senators Paul] Gosar and [Ted] Cruz did exactly what was expected of them. It was a perfect plan. And it all predicated on peace and calm on Capitol Hill. We didn’t even need any protestors, because we had over 100 congressmen committed to it.”

But in a recent interview with Navarro, MSNBC host Ari Melber noted that this "perfect plan"—though not as violent and chaotic as the Capitol insurrection—still amounted to a coup.

Watch below.

Navarro repeated the plan to Melber, while decrying the media for supposedly refusing to accept the notion that widespread fraud occurred (state officials, multiple election audits, court cases, Trump's own Justice Department, and a slew of other entities had repeatedly debunked widespread fraud claims before these electoral votes were certified).

Melber responded:

"You just described this plan as a way to take an election where the outcome was established by independent secretaries of state, by the voters of those states, and legal remedies had been exhausted, with the Supreme Court never even taking—let alone siding with—any of the claims that you just referred to, so legally they went nowhere. ... Then you will use the incumbent losing party's power, that was the Republican Party that was losing power, to overtake and reverse that outcome. Do you realize you are describing a coup?"

Navarro stammered and denied Melber's characterization then proceeded to smear individual secretaries of state as corrupt, promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories that they were put in power by Democratic megadonor George Soros.

People praised Melber for holding Navarro's feet held to the fire.

Meanwhile, Navarro's deranged rants were rightly dismissed and decried.

Navarro continues to lie that widespread fraud occurred in the 2020 election.

The City Of Minneapolis Just Got Nominated For A Nobel Peace Prize—And Everyone's Thinking The Same Thing

President Donald Trump isn't going to be happy to know that the editors of The Nation have nominated the city of Minneapolis and its residents for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing the city's response to Trump's immigration crackdown that has captured the nation's attention since the murders of Renée Nicole Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE agents.

In a statement addressed to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the editors noted that "while individuals and organizations have been granted this prize since its inception in 1901, no municipality has ever been recognized."
