'SNL' Writer Mocks Morgan Wallen's Conservative Instagram Post After He Walked Off Set Before Show's End

After the country singer made waves on social media by walking off the SNL set before the end of the show and posting a photo of his private jet with the caption "Get me to God's country," writer Josh Patten made a mocking post of his own.

An SNL writer trolled country star Morgan Wallen for bolting from the SNL studio stage at the end of the show while cameras were still rolling.

The "More Than My Hometown" singer was on the March 29 episode that featured Mikey Madison, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the Best Picture winner Anora.

Wallen performed "I'm the Problem" from his upcoming album of the same name and returned to the stage for his second performance on the episode to sing "Just in Case," also from the new record.

Traditionally, celebrity and musical guests on the long-running NBC comedy sketch show take their bows and interact with cast members during the credits, but it appeared Wallen had no interest in sticking around to interact with everyone.

He was seen leaning in to whisper something to Madison's ear after the 26-year-old told viewers she had a "wonderful time" on her SNL debut.

Wallen then stepped off the stage and walked right past the camera as Madison remained onstage to be a part of the post-show merriment.

Here's a clip.

After his abrupt exit, Wallen shared a photo on his Instagram story of a private jet with the overlaid text, "Get me to God's country," which you can see here.

Maybe spending 48 hours in NYC was a jarring contrast to his southern, churchgoing roots, and he just wanted to get back home.

In response to Wallen's plea to be whisked away to a holier destination, SNL writer Josh Patten mocked the singer by using the same phrase but overlaying a photo of a Krispy Kreme delivery truck.

The vehicle appears to be parked on a street in Manhattan with a ramp providing access to the back entrance.

If the Krispy Kreme truck was Wallen's mode of transport to the Promised Land, where do we sign up?

Some wondered why Wallen was on the show at all if he was so antsy to leave.

Others had a hunch about what was really going on.

Kenan Thompson weighed in, providing some context about how guests usually behave when the show ends.

“I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way... I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something," Thompson told Entertainment Weekly.

He explained:

"It’s definitely a spike in the norm. We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody’s saying, ‘Good job, good job, good job.’ So when there’s a departure from that, it’s like, hmm, I wonder what that’s about?”
“The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella? That’s not necessarily my favorite."

Wallen's appearance on the show came five years after his controversial SNL debut in December 2020.

He was supposed to be the musical guest two months prior, but was disinvited after TikTok videos showed him ignoring COVID-19 health and safety guidelines at the time, going maskless and partying with college women at bars in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

According to NBC, there's no bad blood between the network and the country singer after he caused a stir online for singing and bouncing.

TMZ sources said that Wallen stuck around to watch the entire show and that there was no tension between him and the cast.

They also noted the singer left the same way he came in during rehearsals, and he thought that was how it was done.
