Lowe admitted to Jimmy Kimmel how he meant to text Robert Downey Jr. a congratulatory text after his win for 'Oppenheimer' at the Golden Globes, but sent it to Cooper instead—not once, but twice.

Rob Lowe sent the loveliest congratulatory text to Bradley Cooper after the 2024 Golden Globes.

The issue, however, is that although Cooper was nominated for both Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director of a Motion Picture for his work in Maestro, he did not walk away with a win in either category.

Yes, Lowe sent the text to the wrong nominee.

He told host Kimmel that after the Golden Globes ceremony, he intended to send the message to Robert Downey, Jr. who won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in Oppenheimer.

Lowe explained:

“So Downey does this amazing acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. And I’m so excited for him."
"So I text him: ‘So glad you won. That is the most beautiful acceptance speech I’ve heard in a long time. Boy, do you deserve it.’"
"I hit it. And I realized, oh sh*t, I just sent that to Bradley Cooper... who did not win.”

He continued that his effort to clarify only made matters worse.

"So then I was like, ‘Oh, I gotta make it better.’ And I said, ‘No, no, I meant that for Robert Downey Jr.’ But now that’s even worse!”

Lowe then attempted to send the message to its rightful recipient but somehow managed to text the congratulations to Cooper once again.

When Kimmel asked if Cooper now thinks he's "crazy," Lowe responded:

“He literally said... he said, ‘No, no, no, it’s OK. I like living vicariously through these mistakes.’”

What an awkward exchange! At least Cooper had a great sense of humor about it all.
