WARNING: possible spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home

Marvel fans are furious after a tweet circulated online many feel is a spoiler for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The film is the newest installment in the Marvel created, Sony owned movie franchise. It has been awaited by fans all over the globe.

The story follows Peter Parker (Tom Holland) after his secret identity as Spider-Man has been revealed to the public. In the film, Parker tracks down Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in an attempt to wipe the memories of those who know his secret.

The film was one of the most anticipated movie releases of 2021 and needless to say, social media users were doing their very best to dodge spoilers as much as possible.

In fact, media company Sony even tweeted a warning to those who have seen the film, urging them not to spoil anything while also advising those who have yet to see the film on how to avoid seeing spoilers.

They wrote:

“NO SPOILERS. Don’t be that person."
"If you want to be extra safe, stop reading comments, mute keywords, and start staying off social media today!"
"Watch #SpiderManNoWayHome to find out what happens for yourself when the movie hits theaters Thursday!”

It came as a huge shock to fans, then, when The Academy of Motion Pictures—the entity behind The Oscars—posted a tweet just one day after the film's release that seemed to contain a massive spoiler.

Watch the video here—but be warned, as this may contain spoilers!

The tweet read:

“Three generations of Peter Parker…our friendly neighborhood Spider-Men”

It also included a video mash-up of the three Spider-Man actors—Tobey McGuire, Andrew Garfield and the newest Spidey Tom Holland—from their respective Spider-Man series.

While this may not seem like a spoiler on the surface, those who have already seen the film argue the tweet leaked one of the biggest spoilers in the film.

Thus, social media users have been calling out The Academy for failing to keep their lips zipped.

Other fans, however, argued the video doesn't really spoil the movie.

Spider-Man: No Way Home broke over $50 million in box office sales on opening night and is still playing in theaters.

24-year-old YouTuber Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov was arrested after making contact with one of the world's last uncontacted tribes, making the perilous and ill-advised journey to North Sentinel Island and leaving a coconut and a can of Diet Coke on the beach as a gift to the Sentinelese.

Polyakov, 24, arrived at the northeastern shore of North Sentinel Island at 10 a.m. on March 29, according to police reports. He used binoculars to survey the land but saw no one.
