A New Study Regarding Women's Opinions On Ivanka Trump Has Everyone Polarized

Donald Trump's eldest daughter and senior political advisor Ivanka was formerly viewed by the press as the golden girl of the Trump family.

But upon closer inspection, her ambivalence on social and political matters is losing her points with millennial women according to a recent poll by Refinery29 and CBS News.

Refinery 29's Natalie Gontcharova explored why Ivanka's approval ratings were lower than that of the president of the United States among women 18-35 years old.

As senior advisor to her father, she is often reserved and plays it safe under pressure at public appearances. But her tendency to avoid ruffling feathers isn't doing her any favors.

"According to a new poll from Refinery29 and CBS News that examines the attitudes of American women between the ages of 18 and 35, only 18% said they view her favorably, while 46% said they view her unfavorably. The remaining 36% are undecided."

After shuttering her signature Chinese made clothing and accessories line to pursue life in the public sector, according to her official statement to the press regarding the end of the Ivanka Trump brand, her public perception could prove very important.

Republican Stephanie Kerr, 25, elaborated on the poll results in a Refinery29 interview and stated that the scion is intrinsically a liberal.

"Although she is vilified by the media, and I do not care for her liberal opinions, I do not have any strong feelings about her either way."
"I think the media focuses too much on the president's family. Ivanka Trump was not elected; her father was."

The poll revealed that 18% of young Republican women viewed Ivanka unfavorably, while 44% had a more favorable view.

Among their Democratic counterparts, 73% expressed their disdain for Ivanka, while only 5% regarded her favorably.

When women of all ages were asked to give their approval ratings, 29% said they had an overall good opinion about Ivanka. When compared to the president's higher 42% approval rating, the disconnect between Ivanka and the public is evident.

The article points out that Ivanka's surprisingly low approval ratings could be the result of her passivity despite touting herself as an advocate for women's rights.

"Since he took office, Ivanka has positioned herself as a champion of women's rights — showing up at the inauguration in a white pantsuit and taking on paid family leave and women's economic empowerment, but never going so far as to truly break with her father on hot-button issues that impact women like reproductive rights, sexual harassment, and his hard line on immigration."

Kelli Hoffman, a 31-year-old Democrat, believes Ivanka is a powerful figure, but doesn't hold sway over the president.

"I just figured the president stands alone on decisions."

Republican Kerr agreed on that score, adding,

"She has strong opinions about many issues, particularly issues regarding women, and she makes those opinions known to President Trump."
"I do not believe she has any strong influence over the president or his policies."

As early as November 2017, Ivanka has not implemented any changes and went as far as demonstrating that pay equity is not on her list of priorities.

The advocacy group Center For American Progress (CAP), criticized Ivanka for being diffident over hot-button topics and told CNN,

"Ivanka Trump's sporadic forays into discussions about her issue priorities, more often than not, have been largely rhetorical with few details and little concrete analysis of the economic, racial, gender, ethnic, geographic, and other differences that can influence policy needs and outcomes."

Since that observation almost a year later, not much has changed.
