A change.org petition was launched on Tuesday to have Butker dismissed from the Kansas City Chiefs for discriminatory remarks after his bigoted graduation speech sparked controversy—and it's already amassed well over 100k signatures.

A Change.org petition was launched on Tuesday to have Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker dismissed from the team for discriminatory remarks after he gave a misogynistic and anti-LGBTQ+ commencement speech criticizing working women, reproductive rights, surrogacy, and LGBTQ+ rights at the ultra-conservative Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.

Butker, who urged male graduates to "fight against the cultural emasculation of men," claimed that "abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerative cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder."

Addressing women graduates directly, he added:

"For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you."
"Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."

Butker also claimed that he is "beyond blessed" because his wife Isabelle "would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: Homemaker.” He said her "dream of having a career might not have come true, but if you ask her today if she has any regrets on her decision, she would laugh out loud without hesitation, and say, 'Hey, no.'"

The football player also denounced Pride—a celebration of LGBTQ+ solidarity and identity as resistance to discrimination and violence—as "dangerous gender ideologies," further describing it as a commemoration of "deadly sins ... that has an entire month dedicated to it." He called on graduates to adhere to "the true God-centered pride that is cooperating with the holy ghost to glorify him."

After news of Butker's remarks went viral, a petition was created to address his "sexist, homophobic, anti-trans, anti-abortion and racist" comments. The petition adds that Butker's "dehumanizing remarks against LGBTQ+ individuals, attacks on abortion rights and racial discrimination perpetuate division and undermine human rights."

It continues:

"These comments reinforce harmful stereotypes that threaten social progress. They create a toxic environment that hinders our collective efforts towards equality, diversity and inclusion in society. It is unacceptable for such a public figure to use their platform to foster harm rather than unity."
"It's important to note that these types of discriminatory attitudes contribute significantly towards societal issues such as hate crimes which have been on the rise in recent years (source: FBI Hate Crime Statistics). Furthermore, they can lead to increased mental health issues among targeted communities (source: American Psychological Association)."
We demand accountability from our sports figures who should be role models promoting respect for all people regardless of their race, gender identity or sexual orientation. We call upon the Kansas City Chiefs management to dismiss Harrison Butker immediately for his inappropriate conduct.

As of Saturday, the petition has garnered more than 200,000 signatures.

Many have criticized Butker, echoing much of what was outlined in the petition.

Butker's comments also drew attention from his employer, the National Football League (NFL).

In remarks to People, Jonathan Beane, the NFL’s Senior Vice President and chief diversity and inclusion officer, said Butker "gave a speech in his personal capacity" and that his views "are not those of the NFL as an organization." He added that the NFL "is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger."

The LGBTQ+ advocacy group GLAAD also issued a statement calling Butker’s speech “a clear miss” and “woefully out of step with Americans about Pride, LGBTQ people and women.”

UPDATE: The title of this article has been updated to reflect the petition signatures crossing 200,000 since the story was published.

Little Girl Hilariously Figures Out How To Get Around Mom's 'No Bad Words' Rule—And We Gotta Respect It

We've all heard the advice that when you want to start a new habit, you have to give yourself time for that habit to "stick," and you also shouldn't try to take on too many new habits at once.

While the easy answer to that logic is that it would be too much change at once and too much "new" to remember, it also could take the fun out of the new practice.

Giant AI-Generated Christmas Mural Removed After People Notice Some Truly Unhinged Details

Though many of us are worried about the prevalence of AI and its potential to take away the jobs of professional writers, artists, and designers, one truly haunted Christmas mural proves that AI is not ready to take on the responsibility just yet.

Ample theories are available for how this unhinged mural came to be, but a favorite is that an upper executive didn't want to approve an art budget for this year's mural and suggested AI instead, so a designer planned the worst option possible. Or someone turned immediately to AI, barely checked their work, and just hit the "approve" button.

Brooke Shields Has Hilarious Reaction After She's Given Awkwardly Short Chair On 'Today' Show

People who have not performed in front of a live audience might assume that adequate rehearsal time and production planning ensure things will go smoothly.

But seasoned performers will tell you that mistakes happen, no matter how well-rehearsed or fine-tuned the project is. When the mistake is obvious enough that the audience becomes aware of it, the best thing to do is laugh it off or incorporate the mistake into the program as much as possible to keep the show going.
