In March, Nebraska MAGA Republican Representative Mike Flood held a town hall in Columbus, Nebraska.
It did not go well.
On Tuesday, he decided to try again in the town of Seward, Nebraska, where almost every question focused on Flood signing MAGA Republican President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill. The bill passed in the House—where the GOP has 220 seats versus the Democrats 214—with a 215-214 vote.
Every Democrat voted against the bill and two Republican's joined them. One member of the GOP voted "present" and two more skipped voting. Flood was one of the 215 who voted "yes."
Flood's latest town hall in Seward also did not go well.
One lowpoint for Flood was when a constituent asked why he supported a budget bill that had a provision shoehorned in that would limit federal courts' ability to reign in government misconduct via injunctions and contempt orders.
According to the United States Constitution, that's the primary role of the Judiciary Branch in a three-branch checks and balances system of government.
But the budget bill intends to kneecap that check on Trump's power.

To the well-informed voter who read through the bill, Flood responded:
"I do not agree with that section that was added to that bill. I do believe that the federal district courts, when issuing an injunction, it should have legal effect."
He then admitted he wasn't even aware of what was in the bill he signed, saying:
"I am not going to hide the truth. This provision was unknown to me when I voted for that bill, and when I found out that provision was in the bill, I immediately reached out to my Senate counterparts and told them of my concern."
You can watch the moment here:
He added:
"When I return to Washington, I am going to very clearly tell the people in my conference that we cannot support undermining our court system and we must allow our federal courts to operate and issue injunctions."

In order to get the unpopular bill passed, holdout Republicans were allowed to insert several provisions, unrelated to budgetary issues, concerning tanning beds, gun silencers, gender-affirming care, closing Planned Parenthood centers, and creating Trump Accounts.
Nebraskans took exception to Flood signing Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill for multiple reasons, like gutting social services...
...and leaving the working class to pay the cost for billionaires to get tax cuts.
Flood clung to his lies about Medicaid, SNAP, and Social Security being safe and claimed giving money to the wealthiest people would stimulate the economy—a tune the GOP has been singing since the 1980s.
His constituents weren't buying it.
Neither was anyone else.

At one point in the town hall, a constituent called out the many infractions committed by Trump both in and out of office, cited his cognitive decline, then asked Flood to explain how he wasn't encouraging fascism and if he was going to invoke articles of impeachment against Trump.
The woman received raucous applause from the mostly elderly crowd.
In response, Flood whinged about being called a fascist, then failed to answer any part of her question.
Flood had stated in March that he'd host a town hall in Lincoln in August. It's unclear if Flood will continue with that plan or join most of the rest of the GOP in taking the advice of Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, hiding from his constituents, and hoping they'll forget before the next election in November 2026 when all 435 House seats will be up for grabs.
