Back in the early 2010s, Taylor Swift and Glee star Dianna Agron were regularly seen together, often photographed together as well, as Agron's musical comedy drama rocketed in popularity.
No big deal, right?
Well, it wasn't. That is until the release of Swift's 2012 Red album came out and fans noticed a secret message that spelled out "Dianna" in the album's liner notes.
That sent fans into a frenzy, speculating a love story somewhere between the two that inspired the lyrics for Swift's song "22." More than a decade later, Agron has addressed the rumor and set people straight.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Agron said of the speculation:
“Me? Oh, if only!”
“That’s more because of a friendship than being the inspiration for the song."
"But I would not be the person to ask about that. I cannot claim that!”
After telling Agron the two had been "shipped"—and subsequently explaining that meant the duo were "made out by the media and some fans to be in a relationship," Agron laughed.
The actor replied.
“That is so interesting."
“I … I mean, there have been many stories about my dating life that are so wildly untrue. That’s funny.”
Though Agron seemingly cleared the air, it didn't mean fans were buying it.
Many noted there was not an explicit "no" in her response.
Later in the interview, Agron told Rolling Stone:
"I think there are so many false pieces of information out there."
"That's the weirdest thing that you have to learn in this industry - you don't comment on things that are untrue, because that gives them more space."
"Maybe at the end of my career I'll write a book and go into detail on everything that was very true and very untrue."
Now, that's a concept...
Neither Swift nor her team have responded to requests for comment.
