Earlier this month, video surfaced of far-right Congresswoman Lauren Boebert of Colorado likening Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota—one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress—to a suicide bomber, also referring to her as a member of the "Jihad Squad."

Boebert said:

"I was getting into an elevator with one of my staffers and he and I were leaving the Capitol, we're going back to my office and we get in the elevator and I see a Capitol Police officer running hurriedly to the elevator. I see fret all over his face. And he's reaching. The door is shutting. I can't open it. What's happening? I look to my left and there she is, Ilhan Omar, and I said, 'Well she doesn't have a backpack, we should be fine.'"

After her asinine comments sparked national outcry, Boebert issued a widely-panned apology, not to Omar, but to "anyone in the Muslim community [she] offended." Boebert and Omar later spoke privately on a call, which ended with Omar hanging up after Boebert refused to apologize to her directly. The far-right Congresswoman later said it was Omar who should apologize and has liked tweets defending her diatribe

Now, House progressives are calling on Democratic leadership to censure Boebert and strip her of her committee assignments, as was done for Republican Congress members Paul Gosar of Arizona and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia for their incendiary social media posts earlier this year.

Democratic Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts introduced a resolution to do just that before appearing with other House progressives to tell reporters about the need for Boebert to face consequences.

Among those representatives was Democratic Congresswoman Cori Bush of Missouri, who made her thoughts on Boebert crystal clear.

Watch below.

Bush said:

If we’re serious about tackling the systems of entrenched white supremacy that stained every fiber of this country, then we need to start right here, right in this Capitol. We need to start with this lying, Islamophobic, race-baiting, violence-inciting, white supremacist sentiment-spreading, Christmas tree gun-toting elected official who is out here straight up calling her colleague a terrorist. Lauren Boebert is a danger to this country, she is a danger to the Muslim staffers who work here, she is a danger to her fellow members of Congress.

People applauded Bush's comments

And calls are growing for Boebert to face consequences.

It's unclear if or when the motion will be brought to the floor.

According to former presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway—who gave us the term "alternative facts"—the campaign has sparked "panic on the left."
