'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' Gives 'Groundhog Day' a Trump-Era Update

With headlines of Donald Trump denying collusion with Russia being regurgitated on the news, it feels like we're forced to relive the same nightmare on an endless loop. Will we ever wake up from this? Even the groundhog who saw his shadow on Friday couldn't forecast how much longer we'd be stuck with the current administration.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert paid homage to the popular U.S. tradition and revisited the 1993 movie Groundhog Day to make a parody of our lives in the era of Trump.

"They did the whole ceremony. And apparently Punxsutawney Phil came out of his hole, saw who was president and took his own life," Colbert said, before introducing the clip.

"What's the point?" he said.

The clip opens with our protagonist's alarm going off at 6 AM to the familiar strains of Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe." But the similarities to the Bill Murray film end there.

The radio host announces the latest news headlines:

Okay campers, rise and shine! Well, it's been a busy morning for president Trump, who denied any collusion, insulted our allies, and threatened to start World War 3!

It's a rude awakening.(YouTube)

On his way to work, Bill is intercepted by "Jed Ryerson from high school," who asks, "Did you hear our president's out golfing again?"

With an evasive "I gotta go," Bill steps into that first doozy of a step.

The scene segues into a repetition of the wake up call.

This time, the radio host repeats the all-too-familiar headlines, but with the addition of "He played golf for eight hours and hit on a porn star. That's our Donnie."

After the third rude awakening, Bill brandishes a hammer from his bed and destroys the offensive alarm clock with a few enraging wallops.

And unfortunately for Jed Ryerson, he becomes an additional punching bag for Bill's frustration. After clocking him, Bill exclaims "I can't take it anymore. I'm living the same day over and over again. Every day it's the same Trump news!"

Poor Jed Ryerson.(YouTube)

Yeah, we get it. Right there with you, Bill.

With his good-natured spirit still intact, Ryerson responds:

Oh it's not the same day, silly. It just feels that way. With Trump in office, we're all living a repetitive nightmare that feels like there's no end or escape."

Just another day in America with Trump in office.

Twitter agreed with the parody. Every day is like the same these days.

Wedding Photographer Reveals The Telltale Signs That A Couple Will Get A Divorce In Eye-Opening TikTok

We've all heard the saying, "When you know, you know."

Sometimes a relationship doesn't go the "normal" or "acceptable" way, like not meeting in conventional ways or not being together "long enough" before marrying, but when a couple knows they're in love, they know.

Viral 'Pints And Ponytails' Event For Dads Who Want To Learn How To Do Their Daughters' Hair Is Giving Us All The Feels

Dads have a lot to learn when it comes to raising their kids, and in some case, single dads don't always have the same sounding board for their choices as married couples and co-parents.

This isn't talked about enough, but dads with daughters have the added pressure of learning how to take care of girls, from dressing them to taking care of their hair, which can be a very different experience from raising boys. If they weren't raised with sisters or female cousins, they could be at a total loss for how to approach this.
