Living in New York City, it's not uncommon to run into a celebrity somewhere. Most are lowkey and might even live in your neighborhood, living their best lives rather quietly when they're not on stage or on screen or writing a book or whatever. You might run into them at the bodega and give them a perfunctory nod. Such is life here. And almost everyone has a story about the time they met someone famous.
After Redditor Mega_Thicc_Skipper asked the online community, "Who is the Most Famous Person You Have Ever Met in Person?" people shared their stories.
"It was a book signing..."
I met Stephen King. It was a book signing and I was nervous and didn't know what to say. He noticed and broke the ice by saying "You must be my tallest fan." He leaned up against me and they took our photo.
He's always seemed like a cool dude.
If nothing else, I'd just love to pick his brain about some of his work and his favorite movies. The Master of Horror is a noted horror film buff. He and I would have a good time.
Lindsey even insisted..."
I met Fleetwood Mac a couple of years ago and although awe struck they couldn't have been nicer! Lindsey even insisted on giving me tickets to the up coming concert I had failed to get.
"He had an autograph signing..."
Bruce Campbell.
He had a autograph signing for his book "Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way" and he sits down with each person for one minute.
When he wrote to Maul (my nickname) he asked how I got it.
I said "Oh, i backyard wrestled in high school under that name and it stuck."
He said "Not bad, could be worse names to have stuck. I could be writing d!ckface in this book instead."
Bruce Campbell is a hilarious guy.

It was 30 years ago..."
Paul Newman. It was 30 years ago and I was working in an airport bar. He was in town for an auto race. I asked him about his race car. He told me no one ever wanted to chat about racing, only his movie stuff and he chatted with me for about an hour as I cleaned up the bar.
To which this person responded:
Can't remember who it was, but I was listening to an interview recently with another actor or comedian who had known Paul Newman. I remember he made a comment similar to what what you said; people who would stop him to compliment him or talk to him about movie roles, he would be polite but would want to move along. Stop to talk to him about cars or racing, and he'd talk your ear off.
"I'm not really the starstruck type..."
I met Tom Hardy at a dog park, and since our dogs become friends, we became friends. Super cool dude. We were dog park buddies for months before he moved back to the UK.
I'm not really the starstruck type, so I didn't really care, or know that much about him. But my roommate who was OBSESSED with him came to the dog park to meet him with me once, and Tom could not have been more accommodating. He even volunteered to do his voice message recording in the voice of Bane, and it was incredibly cool, saying he was "all tied up and couldn't answer the phone...it would be very painful." Our friends would call him regularly just to hear the outgoing message.
"I met Tom Hanks..."
I met Tom Hanks in a fish & chip shop in Scotland. I blurted out, "I wish you were my dad!" He laughed and said, "I get that a lot."
He most certainly does.
Given that he tends to play super approachable people––and has such a wholesome image––it makes sense.
"He said my hair was soft..."
Robin Williams! He said my hair was soft when we snapped a picture together.
"He smelled nice..."
LeVar Burton. I was a nervous wreck! He was the best, gave me a hug. He smelled nice and he should be The President of The World.

Post Malone. He was cool, super awkward, and he smelled like bud. We quoted Talladega Nights back and forth for a minute!

I met Simon Pegg when I was working as a cashier at Borders and I love to share this story because he was such a nice and funny guy.
It was like a Tuesday in the afternoon and the place was empty. He came up to my with some stationery and I started ringing him up. The entire time I was thinking he looked so much like him, but I didn't think it was him since I wasn't in the UK and as far as I knew he wasn't filming a movie in Chicago, so it was a pretty quiet transaction. After it was done and I was handing him his bag with his stuff I jokingly said, "Has anyone told you that you look like the guy from Shaun of the Dead?" He replied, "I am the guy from Shaun of the Dead."
It's always a thrill to meet some of your heroes.
It's even better when it actually works out.
