UPS Just Launched Its Drone Delivery Service and For a Very Good Reason

This is really taking off.

Drone deliveries are shaping up to be the future of shipping, so naturally the race is on to see which service can most quickly utilize this relatively new technology to create more seamless and efficient delivery experiences.

It looks like we might have a winner.


UPS partnered with Matternet, a drone company, to begin daily deliveries of medical accoutrements on the vast campus of North Carolina's WakeMed—a healthcare campus with facilities around Raleigh, North Carolina's metro area.

The urgency of delivering samples and supplies has no time for traffic, and UPS's new drone program has shortened delivery time from half an hour to three-and-a-half minutes—all while generating revenue.

Twitter was cheering for the new development.

Of course—as with every technological advance from the printing press to the automobile—there were inevitably some naysayers.

Regardless of doubts, the usage of drones is already taking off.
