GOP Candidate Swiftly Backtracks After Saying He Doesn't 'Really Care What Happens to Ukraine'

GOP Candidate Swiftly Backtracks After Saying He Doesn't 'Really Care What Happens to Ukraine'

Author J.D. Vance has adopted a host of extreme right positions since throwing his hat into the ring for the Ohio Senate race. He's said professors are the "enemy." He's said we should "promote" the "values" of Kyle Rittenhouse, the far-right media darling who rose to fame for killing two people during uprisings against racist police brutality. He's defended far-right Fox News host Tucker Carlson and the white supremacist "great replacement" theory.

So as Russian President Vladimir Putin was escalating tensions with Ukraine last week, people weren't exactly surprised to see Vance was perfectly content to abandon a U.S. ally from a fascist regime.

Watch below.

Vance said:

“I think it’s ridiculous that we are focused on this border in Ukraine. I got to be honest with you, I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.”

In the days following those callous comments, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine that's already led to more than 100 casualties in just over a day of fighting.

It just so happens that Ohio, which Vance wants to represent in the United States Senate, has more than 80 thousand citizens of Ukrainian descent.

It's something he must've just realized, because Vance released a lengthy statement on Twitter blasting Putin for the invasion and taking Ukraine's side.

The statement spends a considerable amount of focus decrying direct U.S. military intervention in Ukraine, which President Joe Biden has repeatedly said was off the table.

The five-paragraph statement is a marked departure from the sentiment that he doesn't care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.

Social media users noticed.

People were pretty sure they knew the reason for Vance's sudden concern.

Vance's comments come as his supporters express concerns about his polling performance.

Stephen Colbert Makes Somber Plea To Americans In Wake Of Charlie Kirk's Death

Late-night host Stephen Colbert had a somber message for Americans as he addressed the assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk, stressing that "political violence only leads to more political violence."

Kirk died after an unidentified gunman shot him in the neck as he—ironically enough—mocked victims of gun violence at an event in Utah Valley State University. Kirk's murder has galvanized the far-right, with President Donald Trump and his surrogates claiming without evidence that rhetoric from Democrats is responsible for Kirk's death.

TikToker Hilariously Calls Out Target After Champion Pants Feature Awkwardly-Placed Front Pleat

Sometimes you can just tell when something was designed *for* women, but was not actually designed *by* women.

Take, for instance, the new pleated pants available at Target from the Champion clothing line. While there's nothing wrong with pleated pants and they certainly have a suitable spot in the workplace, the latest rendition of Champion pleated pants are, shall we say, NSFW.

Woman Goes Viral After Revealing How Her Obsession With Matcha Landed Her In The Hospital

Let's be honest: Too much of anything isn't good for us. It's all about the balance!

But the media and social media trends have taught us that certain things are really good for us, encouraging us to be like the "very mindful and very demure" girls and take care of ourselves. One such example is drinking more matcha, especially if you really like coffee or think you have a caffeine addiction.
