'Game Of Thrones' Just Set A Major Emmys Record, But One Nomination Has Fans Scratching Their Heads

The nominations for the 71st Primetime Emmys were announced on Tuesday, July 16, and were met with widespread approval!

Well, except for one nomination...

Fan-favorite shows like Barry, The Good Place, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Russian Doll, Veep, Better Call Saul, Killing Eve, and Pose, all secured nominations, but the biggest winner of the night was Game of Thrones, which set a new record at 32!

Fans agreed most of the nominations were well-earned, but one out of those 32 potential wins seemed a bit far-fetched: Outstanding Writing for the series's final episode, "The Iron Throne."

You may remember how badly GoT's finale was received by fans when it first came out.

Well, their opinions haven't changed and many took to Twitter to remind us of that fact.

Even die-hard fans of the show had to admit there were other episodes more worthy of the coveted nomination.

Though the internet agreed that the performances weren't to blame, many felt let down by the show's final season due to what was perceived as lazy writing.

These faces say it all:

There are so many well-written shows on television right now.

It almost seemed like one of them deserved that spot more than Game of Thrones.

If Game of Thrones wins the writing Emmy, it looks like the internet might revolt.

The Emmy's recognized some truly great work...as well as some that was not-so-great.

The 71st Emmy Awards will be held on September 22 on Fox.

Now that the series has wrapped up, the Game of Thrones Collectors Edition - Complete Series Seasons 1-8 is available here.

And tune in to the Emmy Awards to see whether GoT ends up taking home all 32 of its nominations (even the one they don't deserve)!

If they weren't raised with sisters or female cousins, they could be at a total loss for how to approach this.
