Musk’s Much-Maligned Plan to Remove the Block Feature on X Hits Potentially Fatal Snag

If Musk goes through with his plan to eliminate the block function, it could cause X, formerly Twitter, to be removed from Apple's App Store and Google Play.

It seems that Elon Musk's employees aren't the only ones who should be worried about getting the axe. The block function of X, formerly Twitter, could be eliminated from the social media platform.

It's true. In a recent tweet, Musk announced that the block function on X will soon be deleted, "except for DMs."

Many on X have pointed out that the block function is a safety feature that prevents users from being harassed and overly spammed. Given Musk's desire for the platform to be a place of uninhibited expression—unless, of course, the speech doesn't align with his values and core beliefs—eliminated the feature is completely on-brand.

X users have also noted that both Apple and Google require some type of blocking feature in order for an app to be available for download.

But, true to form, Musk doesn't believe the rules apply to him.

Users of his platform don't think removing the block function is a good idea, mainly in terms of user safety.

Regardless of the benefits the function provides, many expressed that... it's kind of mandatory.

Of course, many also believe Musk's desire to remove the feature is more about the bottom line than freedom of expression.

And others pointed out the hypocrisy of his unilateral decision on this policy.

Alas, in his ever-so-mature way of handling criticism, Musk has a solution for those who aren't too keen on his idea.

Be careful what you wish for!
