The girlfriend of a minor league baseball player, who was shown being brutally beaten, in a now-viral video has finally spoken out. Speaking to TMZ, Fabiana Perez, the girlfriend of Danry Vasquez said she wished she had pressed charges back when the incident occurred in August 2016. A video showing the horrifying attack was released in March 2018.

At the time of the attack, Vasquez was A player with the Houston Astros' minor league affiliate, the Corpus Christi Hooks. In her interview with TMZ, Fabiana Perez said, "May God forgive him. He knows what he did. He wronged me, and at the time I forgave him, but if I had the knowledge I have now, I would have made a different decision." Perez also spoke directly to those who criticize her for remaining with Vasquez for two months after the attack, "It’s true what they say: you need to walk a mile in someone’s shoes to know how you’d feel in their situation. People don’t know the stuff that I lived, people don’t know the fear that I suffered. Like I said, a lot of what you see in that footage, I don’t remember. I see the video now and remember moments of the situation, but you really don’t know how you would feel." Perez and Vasquez were engaged at the time.

Vasquez Is Now Engaged to a Different Woman

According to a post on his Facebook page, Vasquez got engaged to a new woman in November 2017. Perez says that she split from Vasquez in October 2016. Vasquez's elaborate proposal can be seen in the above video. In an interview with Elmergente from November 2017, Vasquez says that he had married and not to the women from the "incident." In a translation of the interview, via TMZ, Vasquez said, "I respect, value and love my wife. She has supported me in all this and has been an unconditional person in this matter. I also know that those scenes were strong. As a public figure, I must set an example. Today I apologize and show that this should not be done. I know that stronger comments come and I leave everything in God's hand."

Vasquez Has been Released by 2 Teams Over the Attack

Venezuelan native Vasquez was released by the Houston Astros organization at the time of his original arrest over the attack. The MLB Trade Rumors report on his release said that the Astros had not specifically mentioned his arrest as the reason for letting him go. Though the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported that Vasquez had been suspended indefinitely by the team until an investigation was complete.

In March 2018, after the video showing the attack was released publicly, the Lancaster Barnstormers released a statement on their Facebook page announcing Vasquez's release. The statement read, "A recently released video out of Corpus Christi, Texas portrays a domestic violence episode involving Vasquez. Upon being made aware of the nature of the incident, the Barnstormers made a prompt decision to cut ties with the 24-year old outfielder." While manager Ross Peeples said that Vasquez's behavior could not be "condoned."
