People Describe The Coolest Thing They Have Ever Owned

Every object has a story.

I am fortunate to own several items that belonged to my late grandmother, including one of her favorite scarves and a cup she used to drink out of regularly until before her dementia robbed her of her motor functions. These are pretty cool objects, and they hold a lot of sentimental value.

After Redditor hoganpaul asked the online community, "What's the coolest thing you own?" people delivered.

"He had a set..."

My grandfather lost an eye in WW2. He had a set of glass eyes made, a few for everyday use, one for sleeping. Anyway, he died several years ago and now I own his old set of glass eyes.

I literally have my grandfathers eyes.

"I also have..."

I have a Soviet WWII veteran medal my girlfriend bought me for my birthday from some antique shop. I also have a cane with a steel skull knob which if you unscrew reveals a 30 centimeter blade from inside the cane, but I can't decide which one is cooler.

"Lots of cool original photos..."

My Grandfather's WWII scrapbook. Lots of cool original photos of aircrafts, many in flight that are taken from another plane, and a bunch of slivers of wood and glass from some now historical places.

"When I moved in..."

My house actually. When I moved in, I spoke to the 95 year old neighbours who have lived here since the subdivision was built (1940-50's). They said my house was the first one built and was made from reused materials from the farmhouse and barn that used to be here. I have quirky things like wallpaper on the underside of my floor boards, which themselves are tripled 1x16 tongue and groove boards.

"I posted many times..."

A lilac plant. That in itself is very innocuous, but it's cool in that it's in Florida. I posted many times about wanting to grow a lilac in Florida, and despite the naysayers many also gave me encouragement and I bought a plant and worked on forcing an artificial winter so it'd grow and bloom like they do naturally in Northern climates. I've had it almost going on 9 months, I got it last fall, started the wintering, let it bloom in the spring, and now it's just doing its summer thing. Actually, even now it's still growing. I found new leaves on it a couple days ago. Come this fall I'll prune it so I can get it dormant and rinse and repeat, hopefully ad infinitum to keep it going like if it were in its native habitat.

"I have..."

I have my great, great, great grandfather's calvary saber from the Civil War (and yes, he fought for the North), with the original harness. My grandma passed it down to me.

Also have a WW2 Pair-O-Dice patch for the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne (i.e. the guys from Band of Brothers), though not from a family member.

"He is the one..."

Probably my car or my watch, depending. Car is a cool luxury coupe. I love it. Watch is 35 years old, it was my dad's and has his name engraved on it.

The car is more generic, and more relatable to most people. But I like the watch. He is the one who introduced me to watches, so it's a cool gift he gave me.

"The story of how I found them..."

I have an antique coin collection. The story of how I found them is really funny. So I was riding my bike with my friends. In the glimpse of my eye I saw a tiny batch of coins. That sparked my curiosity so I inspected them and got really excited once I saw the date. Turns out it was not tiny, it was a lot of coins.

"A trunk..."

A trunk my great grandfather made from scrap wood from boats he built when he owned a marina circa 1930s/40s.

"My grandma gave me..."

My grandma gave me a little notebook from Japan from 50 years ago. It looks brand new with how well kept it is! The pen that came along doesn't work and only a few pages were ripped from it.

Trump Just Shared A Truly Unhinged Tribute To Tim Cook After He Announced He's Stepping Down As Apple CEO—And, Hoo Boy

President Donald Trump shared an unhinged tribute to Apple CEO Tim Cook—whom he again referred to as "Tim Apple"—following Cook's announcement that Apple will have a new leader starting in September, openly reminiscing about all the times Cook would call him to "kiss my ass."

Cook took over from Steve Jobs and reshaped Apple by leaning on his operations expertise. He streamlined and expanded global supply chains, introduced Apple-designed chips, and pushed the company beyond hardware into services, launching subscription offerings like Apple News, Apple TV+, and Apple Pay, which have since become major revenue drivers.

AOC Offers Hilarious Take On Why Trump's Golfing Amid Iran War Might Actually Be A Good Thing

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke frankly with MeidasTouch Network's Pablo Menriquez when asked about President Donald Trump's second-term golfing habits, pointing out why Americans might actually want him on the "golf course more than you want him in the Oval Office."

She said it was “awful” that Trump was golfing while the U.S. is at war with Iran and facing rising prices, arguing he should be focused on his responsibilities instead.
