Former New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie's relationship with Donald Trump went from 2016 GOP primary rival to trusted campaign advisor to Trump transition team head to vocal Trump critic.
In addition to being a one-time team Trump insider, Christie also spent almost seven years as a federal prosecutor. So Christie can provide particularly informed insight into Trump's current legal entanglements.
And according to Christie, "it's over" for the 2024 GOP presidential frontrunner after Mark Meadows' immunity deal with Special Counsel Jack Smith in the pending federal case against Trump.
Trump was charged by the Department of Justice in August over alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election after Democrat Joe Biden won.
In an appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe, Christie stated:
"Everyone watching needs to understand from somebody who did this work for seven years—you don't give Mark Meadows immunity unless the evidence he has is unimpeachable.”

Mark Meadows served as the final Chief of Staff in the Trump White House from March 31, 2020 – January 20, 2021.
Christie told the MSNBC panel:
"Look, this is a guy who was Velcroed to Trump’s hip for the entire 2020 campaign and all the post-campaign nonsense."
"And so this is deadly. It’s done. He’s going to be convicted. It’s over."
Christie added:
"I want all Republican voters to understand this, what’s going to be happening in March."
"[Trump is] going to be sitting in a courtroom in Washington, D.C., with Mark Meadows 20 feet away from him, saying, 'he committed crimes in front of me, on my watch'.”
People were less than sympathetic to Trump's legal woes.
Christie also attributed recent Trump campaign trail gaffes to Mark Meadows' decision to cooperate with the prosecution's case against Trump.
Christie said:
"I think it's the stress of what he knows is coming in his criminal problems, and I think this week, because a lot of that was from the last week. That's all post-Mark Meadows."
