A local Reno, Nevada, Girl Scout troop recently painted a bridge in rainbow colors to provide a place for local kids to memorialize their beloved pets.
But less than a week after opening it was vandalized by what appear to be homophobic bigots.
"The Biggest Little Rainbow Bridge" as it is known, a reference to Reno's motto that it is the "biggest little city in the world," is located in the city's Crissie Caughlin Park and was created by local Girl Scout Troop 508.
In announcing the bridge, the city of Reno explained:
This bridge, created by the dedicated Girl Scout Troop 508, is a beautiful and peaceful place to mourn the loss of our beloved four-legged family members who have crossed the rainbow bridge into the great beyond and reflect on the memories we have made with them."
Sweet, right? The announcement was greeted with much excitement from locals, as well as more than a few jokes about how some far-right LGBTQ+-hating weirdos would surely misinterpret it.
One commenter, for instance, wrote:
"[It will] infuriate those that can’t comprehend a rainbow is not always an LGBTQ symbol."
Sadly that seemed to be a very prescient joke.
Just after opening, the bridge was defaced with white paint, which led many online to surmise that it had indeed upset the anti-LGBTQ+ contingent.
Local residents were infuriated. One wrote on a local Instagram post:
“I just want to say congratulations to whoever did this."
"Congratulations on defacing a bridge made by little girls no older than 12 so that people could say goodbye to their pets."
Others reported that the sign a Girl Scout troop member was seen holding in photos of the bridge is in fact posted beside it, explaining what it is for. Not that most bigots would care, of course.
On social media, people were outraged by the incident.

The Girl Scout troop announced they will repaint the bridge in advance of its opening ceremony, and Reno Police have said they will investigate the matter.
He wrote:
"TERRIFIC NIGHT ACCEPTING THE FIRST-EVER KENNEDY CENTER PEACE PRIZE!!! AUDIENCE WAS AMAZING (CHAIRS NOT GREAT, LIGHTING DISASTER). TRUMP AND JANITOR RIC GRENELL LET THE WHOLE PLACE GO TO HELL!!"
"I TOLD THEM AS TRUMP DOZED OFF: RENAME IT THE NEWSOM CENTER!! ONLY I CAN FIX IT!!! CROWD WENT WILD — PEOPLE FAINTING, CRYING, SPEAKING IN TONGUES!!!"

Newsom's post came shortly after FIFA presented Trump with its inaugural “FIFA Peace Prize,” a gold medal and oversized trophy that, notably, arrived just months after he failed to secure a Nobel Peace Prize.
During the ceremony, FIFA President Gianni Infantino heaped praise on Trump, saying the honor recognized his "exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.”
People immediately saw what Newsom was putting down.
Earlier this month, Newsom mocked Trump with a photo highlighting the ridiculousness of the State Department's announcement this week that the U.S. Institute of Peace in downtown Washington, D.C., will now be known as the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace.
Visitors to the institute’s website are now directed to watch for announcements or a livestream of the official signing ceremony. Notably, the notice still identifies the organization by its original name, the “United States Institute of Peace.”
Trump's rapid response team also circulated an image showing Trump’s name emblazoned in large silver lettering above the building’s existing “United States Institute of Peace” sign.
Newsom mocked the absurdity of renaming the Institute after a man who hasn't contributed to world peace at all by sharing an image of the institute named the "KFC Institute for Veganism."
Greene said lawmakers are too intimidated to openly challenge Trump because they dread becoming targets of his online attacks. In private, Greene claimed, some of her colleagues ridicule his voice and his mannerisms—only to “kiss his ass” in public after he secured the 2024 primary.
She added:
"I think they're terrified to step out of line and get a nasty Truth Social post on them."

And sure enough, Greene had a Truth Social post written about her in which Trump wrote:
"The only reason Marjorie “Traitor” Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!) went BAD is that she was JILTED by the President of the United States (Certainly not the first time she has been jilted!). Too much work, not enough time, and her ideas are, NOW, really BAD - She sort of reminds me of a Rotten Apple!"

It's just the latest development in a relationship that has gone south.
Trump distanced himself from Greene after she told Politico that she thinks Trump is going in “insanely the wrong direction to go" by pushing back against efforts to release the Epstein files. She called releasing the files and supporting the victims of the late financier, pedophile, and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein "just like the most common sense, easiest thing in the world."
Trump announced he would withdraw his endorsement of Greene, saying, “All I see ‘Wacky’ Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!” He said he would give his “unyielding support” to a primary challenge against her “if the right person runs." Trump claimed Greene has gone too "far left" for his taste.
Greene later posted on X that Trump went "over the edge" after she sent him a text message urging him to "lean into" releasing the files and support Epstein's victims and go after the "deep state" that includes "Democrat bad guys." She remarked that it's "astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level."
After Trump's rapid response team shared his post on X, Greene responded with the following:
"I AM AMERICA FIRST. Thank you for your attention to this matter."

In a move that stunned both Capitol Hill and constituents back home, Greene revealed last month that she plans to step down from Congress ahead of schedule. The decision followed a dramatic rupture with her longtime political partner after Trump publicly branded her a “traitor” and threatened to support a primary challenger to unseat her.
Greene said she is "not one of those politicians with a long list of political plans" and has no plans to run for office.
