The producer sparked anger from Spears fans after commenting at the Afrotech Conference in Austin, Texas, that he thought Timberlake 'should have put a muzzle' on Britney before her book came out.

Timbaland took to TikTok to apologize after a comment he recently made about Britney Spears sparked quite the backlash.

The music producer made an appearance at the Afrotech Conference in Austin, Texas, on October 29 when an audience member brought up the current buzz surrounding Justin Timberlake's song "Cry Me a River," which was co-written and produced by Timbaland, and Spears' just-released memoir The Woman in Me.

Timbaland replied:

“I wanted to call JT and say, ‘Man! You gotta put a muzzle on that girl."

You can watch below.

It wasn't long before viewers of the clip were calling out Timbaland not only for his recent comment but also for his history of misogynistic behavior.

Given the swift backlash, Timbaland publicly apologized in a TikTok livestream, stating in his video:

“I apologize to the Britney fans. And her."
"Yeah, so you know, about respecting women? Hell yeah.”

You can watch the apology below.

Unfortunately for the producer, most people on social media weren't too accepting, with many expressing their disappointment by way of one of Timbaland's own songs.

A few, however, did appreciate Timbaland taking the time to say he's sorry.

We sure hope he learned his lesson—the Britney Army does not play.
