Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) got an education on climate change on Thursday after he tried to make fun of Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O'Rourke.

Cruz shared a tweet bashing a clip of O'Rourke from CNN's town hall on climate change in which O'Rourke discusses a conversation he had with his 8-year-old son about how El Paso wouldn't be able to sustain human life for much longer unless something drastic changes.

To Cruz, the notion seemed ridiculous since El Paso is "land-locked."

He then went a step further by sharing a GIF of Kevin Costner in Waterworld.

But Cruz's attempt at mocking O'Rourke ended up being a total self-own as it became clear that he doesn't know how climate change works.

So Twitter took the opportunity to drag him.

Namely for thinking that climate change somehow supposedly only affects coastal areas.

Or that climate change only means rising sea levels.

After his tweet went viral, Cruz decided to weigh back in Friday afternoon to try to deflect from all the responses from "triggered lefties," asserting that El Paso "is lovely, thriving & growing" despite what anyone says.

You got us there, Ted.

Working Mom Gets Emotional After Realizing She's Missing All Her Baby's Major Milestones

Anyone who has raised children or is regularly around children can attest that they truly do grow up so fast.

That's what makes it so hard for new parents to go back to work after having a baby. It's not necessarily balancing the new responsibilities of parenthood with their preexisting responsibilities as a working adult, in an office and at home. It's the fact that they're going to miss out on some of the first moments and milestones with their children, which they can't ever get back.
