Exasperated Teacher Calls Out New Safety Measure To Protect Her Classroom Against Potential Threats

Exasperated Teacher Calls Out New Safety Measure To Protect Her Classroom Against Potential Threats

School shootings are becoming an increasingly frequent problem in the United States.

Though new legislature or new gun laws have not been developed and put into practice, some schools have taken to providing their own safety measures, even teachers providing their students with tools to protect themselves from active shooters.

Madi of @notsocoolmads on TikTok recently shared a video of her return to her middle school classroom as she prepares for the new academic year, and what she found on her classroom door.

The TikTok video quickly went viral as viewers toiled with the actions being taken by schools that clearly were not enough without proper regulations also being in place.

The song playing in the background of the video simply repeated, "I want to go home," over and over. In the actual video, as Madi closed her classroom door, two pieces of hardware on her classroom door and door frame could be seen.

Only Madi's hand could be seen as she dropped a metal bracket through the two pieces of hardware, a contraption sometimes seen as a locking feature on garage doors and storage spaces.

The new hardware would make it impossible for a person to single-handedly pull the classroom door open, which would provide teachers and students with more time to prepare for the shooter to enter the room.

It's unclear how preventative the measure—seen here—actually is.

Madi captioned the video:

"Very excited to explain this to my kids."

Madi also clarified how she felt in a comment on the video:

"I'm not complaining that we got a new safety measure; I am just upset that *this* is the solution."

After receiving feedback on her first video, Madi shared a second video with some clarifications.

Some agreed the real problem needed to be addressed.

While this is a step that could save lives in the event of an attack, these door brackets are not the tool that will solve the problem of mass shootings currently haunting the United States school system and beyond.

We may not all like the same things or be fans of the same celebrities, music, books, or films, but we all understand the anticipatory grief that comes with the fact that our favorite artists are human, just like us, meaning they will age and eventually create their last piece.

Fans of Dolly Parton, for instance, went through a scare last month when her sister shared a cryptic Facebook post about Dolly, only for the country singer to later have to post a video to reassure her fans that she "ain't dead yet" and was healthy.
