The singer and a friend stripped down to their underwear in an Instagram post captioned 'MERRY CHRISTMAS'

Shawn Mendes fans didn't know their Christmas present was going to arrive late in the form of a thirst trap video after the holiday, but nobody was complaining.

The 24-year-old Canadian pop singer known for catchy earworms like "Treat You Better" and "If I Can't Have You" posted an Instagram clip in which he and a friend stripped down to boxer briefs and submerged themselves in a freezing river.

"MERRY CHRISTMAS," wrote Mendes in the comments.

The internet became parched watching their Christmas gift that unwrapped itself.

The stunt started with Mendes–who was halfway down to his underwear in calf-high boots and a shawl-collared sweater– approaching the water's edge.

He and his friend took a moment to assess the situation while observing the cold river.

At one point, a woman who was presumably filming the stunt yelled out to Mendes' partner in crime, who appeared to be apprehensive.

She egged on the friend and said of the singer:

"He's getting undressed. What are you doing?"

To which the friend responded by dropping trou and abandoning caution to prepare for the icy dip.

The clip cut to both guys laying on their bellies facing upstream in the shallow running water.

"Woo! It's cold!" exclaimed Mendes.

But hot and bothered viewers admiring the singer's half-nude physique begged to differ.

When the temperature became too much to bear, they re-emerged from the river and tip-toed across to the shore.

As he waded past some thin ice on the surface of the river, Mendes remarked:

"I can't feel a thing."

Meanwhile, Instagrammers were getting all tingly.

Others commented that this behavior was so Canadian of him.

Nash Grier, a major influencer and Mendes’ former MagCon costar, wrote:

"Can take the boy the outta Canada but can't take the Canda outta the boy."

The jury's out on whether this gift was intended for the naughty or nice.

Nevertheless, this winter wonderland really was a beautiful sight.

And we're happy tonight.
